Buenos Aires Travel Report Submitted on 7/6/98 by
Bitterman Unfortunately for you, I do not have direct experience with the soft underbelly of
Buenos Aires, as do most of your writers, but as I have enjoyed reading the reports from
others, I feel inclined to share some of my knowledge about Buenos Aires and it's
nightlife. Perhaps it will help the lonely traveller who ends up here on a rainy
day....last week it was raining and I asked a cab driver what one does in Buenos Aires on
a rainy day (really, there aren't many options). He replied, in the melodic Spanish of the
Argentines "well, you could go see a movie, or ...hmmm....hire a prostitute".
Hookers are an institution: there is no law against them, and recent research shows over
50% of men lose their virginity to one. This in a country of 35 million Catholics!
Should one need such company on a rainy day, there are a variety of options: in calls can
be found in the classifieds of Clarin, the largest daily newspaper; high priced very hot
talent can be found in the bars of Recoleta...Newport on Junin is known for this, or
Sahara; lower level talent can be found on Reconquista Ave....one coffee shop in
particular on the corner of Cordoba and San Martin is famous, or you might opt for one of
the many strip shows on the boulevard...all the women are for hire: going rate about
100-$150 I am told. Last resort is Palermo Viejo where a number of street walkers ply
their trade for around $50...careful, though, to end up on the right end of the street.
Wrong street and it is full of transvestites. Buena suerte.
