I just got back from Rio. It was my first time in Brazil. It was a bad experience. I got scammed and mugged, and my wallet ripped out of my shirt. WARNING... to all the guys who pick up girls hanging outside the cafe at Help Disco. Be aware of scams and setups!!! And don't take any girls to a short-time motel on Copacabana Ave., especially the one named "Hotel Copa Linda" on Copacabana Ave.
I took one girl to Hotel Copa Linda because she suggested it. She asked for the money, and when I got in the shower, she took off. The second girl I took to Hotel Copa Linda, I got mugged and robbed. When we got into the room, I noticed she made a phone call, but I did not think anything further at that time. After we fuck, I left the room and on my way out, I had to walk down a dark stairway to get out of the motel. As I was walking down the stairs, a tall black dude who was much bigger than me stopped me and grab my shirt, pulling it to get to my wallet. I yelled to the front desk guy at the motel, but he did not do anything.
After 10 minutes of struggling and pulling at my shirt, he had ripped it in half and got my wallet. He then jumped into a waiting taxi with the whore that I was with. I soon realized that she had called him. I was stupid to have gone to that motel for the second time. And I was also stupid to bring my wallet with me. They took my 3 credit cards and $250 USD. They were able to make $900USD purchases on my credit cards before I was able to cancel them.
I was stupid, and I paid for my stupidity. Please Dont Let This Happen to You!!! Those whores now know that they can make more money robbing you than by turning tricks!!! Take the hoes back to your hotel or apartment/flat. Don't take them back to a short-time motel or to their place. You could be set up like I was. You don't know who will be waiting for you.

Last week, I went to Centaurus in Rio. At Centaurus you prepay upon arrival - entrance fee, room, and 40 minute date with a beautiful woman - R$310 (drinks are extra, but are reasonable). They prefer cash, but accept all major credit cards. After paying at the reception area, you will be assigned a locker key. You will then be shown to the locker room for you to change out of your clothes into a robe and sandals. Once you dawn your robe, you go upstairs to the bar / disco. Here there will be as many as 80 beautiful women drinking, dancing and finding a date. I sat down at a table to order a drink and get a feel for the surroundings when a beautiful blond Caricoa sat down next to me. I have been going to Rio since 1997, and lived there for about 2-1/2 years. I speak Portuguese very fluently, so I have been able to ferret out a few things of my own in Rio that might be worth posting. I still like Frank's American Bar more than most of the typical places listed on all of these posts, like Bar Barela, Help, Meia Pataca, Balcony, Mab's, Ciccolina, etc... Frank's is a small place on Princesa Isabela, and it has a decent quality of girls - generally 20 or so good-looking babes. The atmosphere is low-keyed, but the sound system is great, and the ongoing topless go-go/pole dancer is kind of cool. They started a live sex show here about two years ago to keep up with Sensoo, and it starts about 23:00, and another one about 3:00 or 4:00 AM.
The best part about this place is that the management knows the girls, and does not let any street trash come in (like Help). The girls have to register their IDs at the door, and they are only allowed in if they meet a certain standard of being hot. Although I never had any problem with any of the girls from Frank's, I truly believe that if there were a problem, I could go back to the place and get the problem ironed out. I did have a couple of problems with street girls, like the one that threatened to throw my friend's surf board out of his apartment window, and the one that started banging an ashtray on the mirror in the bathroom of the hotel. Both wanted more money.
The drinks are more expensive at Frank's, and if you were to run through a 5th of scotch here like we did a couple of times, with the help of some thirsty girls, you could expect a $350 bar tab. Best to stick to the Heinekin that comes in the buckets on ice. The girls here seem to like to drink the Red Bull, which costs about $8 for one of those tiny cans. Lots of the girls here speak no English whatsoever, but the body language thing works pretty good. I have met some very intelligent women here. Women with college degrees that studied literature, or accounting, or philosophy, and knew more than the memorized words to the latest Funk tunes.
I usually am driving a rental car in Rio, rather than depending on the taxis, and I like to take the girls to the Motels a little farther afield than the ones on the back streets of Copacabana or Ave Neidermeier, such as Vips, Sinless, etc. There are some really great Motels just outside of Duque de Caxias, just a 20 minute drive from Ave. Atlantica, like the Caleche, on Rod. Washington Luis, which has a great suite with an outdoor pool with waterfall, sauna, hot tub, huge shower, all granite walls and floors, and private dance floor, all for 80 reals for All Night!
There are other Motels just past Niteroi (over the toll bridge), and just a short drive through the hills, similar to the Caleche, and very clean and well kept. Much, much better than the one hour spots in Copacabana. I took a team - three very hot morenas and mulatas to a place in Niteroi in June '05 for a group swim in the pool, with lots of fucking and sucking. Nothing like a three on one. Reasonably priced drinks and a great breakfast in the morning, and the price of the Motel was similar to Caleche. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the Motel, but my rental car seems to know the way.
One more thing. I am a white guy, and this is for my black American friends who seem to be vacationing in Rio with increasing frequency: I have heard this from more than one working girl in Rio (in Portuguese), that you guys play little tricks with the money, like saying you will pay one amount, and then paying less, and holding out on the rest, and pretending not to pay, saying that that was not the deal, etc., etc. These girls are very serious about the money, and can get very upset very quickly. Lots of the girls on the street or in Help have protection from gangs from the favelas and from the police. The gangs buy weapoons from the army and from the police, and the police protect the gangs and sell them confiscated drugs... and the plot thickens. You may be able to get a prostitute to leave without all of the money, but you cannot win in a conflict with the gangs or the police. These guys have fully automatic weapons and hand grenades. I recommend always making a very firm agreement up front, including how much $$ and for how long. I would repeat the terms a couple of times, and then when it came time to pay - pay quickly and be done with the transaction.
I do not know the story very well, but this happened earlier this year. I think it was a German guy that had a misunderstanding with a hooker in his apartment in Barra. Later some gang members showed up with their guns and killed the guy. Like my Brazilian friends say, you can have sex with any woman. You are not paying the prostitutes to have sex, you are paying them to go away afterwards!

I have read various reports on this board, including one regarding termas girls laying on their back like dead girls. Well, I have spent approximately 5 months over the last year in Rio and can talk with some authority. Let's begin with Termas. Termas are the best bet for most people. The girls for the most part are affectionate, kiss, hug, and give great service. Prices are set and you never need to haggle. I have had some incredible sex and met some incredible girls there.
The best are 4x4, Solarium, and LLumo. The worst seems to be Centaurus -- It's the most expensive place and many of the girls try to push duplo's. Stay away from the two girl deals. They almost always disappoint.
The beach of Copa can be hit or miss. I speak some Portuguese, plus I know the girls, so for me it's more of a hit at this point. However, using the following technique will help you score a good one:
1) If she rushes you to go to the room, move on. 2) If she avoids affection, move on. 3) Try to make out, i.e. kiss. Usually the girls that like to kiss and make-out usually display the same attitude in bed. 4) Be willing to walk away. If the price is too high, negotiate, but walk away if she does not budge. Please do not overpay and ruin it for everybody else. 5) Try to dance and hang out with the girls in "Help". The later you leave, the better the chances that she will stay with you for the night. 6) Negotiate everything important for you, upfront.
