Hi, I am just back from Recife, which is a beautiful and wonderful city in the northeast of Brazil. I would like to report what happened to my buddy who went in the trip with me. About 9 pm he was walking alone, trying to find a pick, close to "pracinha" in Boa Viagem when a girl approached him and asked for money. He declined and kept walking. The girl nagged him more, and, again, he refused.
The girl then called a policeman and complained that he was sexually harassing her. The policeman told him to pay her, but he refused since he had done nothing. Well, since the girl pressed charges the policeman arrested him and took him to the police station. There he was charged with sexually exploiting a minor (the girl was a minor). In Brazil, of course this is a crime: worst, a crime without a bail out option. In short, he had to pay a lawyer who took his case about three thousand dollars.
The lawyer was able to prove that the girl was lying because she said he had been in his room at the hotel. But the girl's description of the room had nothing to do with what the detective, together with the lawyer, found when they searched the place.
As a consequence, my friend was released and the police even gave him a letter for him to show to his family confirming his innocence.
Fellow horny guys, this is becoming a common ploy in Recife. The girl, the pimp and the policeman are all part of the same gang. This ploy will not work, though, if you are accompanied by someone who can testify in your favor. Thus, the targets are always single man walking alone, with a foreign look. Since my friend is eastern European, he was very easy to spot. We are not like the Portuguese who are difficult to distinguish from the local population. We are poles! Our faces were screaming "foreigners".
So, here are my recommendations:
(1) If you must pick women in the street at Boa Viagem or Conselhiero Aguiar street, do not go alone. Use the buddy system.
(2) If you must go alone, stay away from any teenager who tries to contact you.
(3) Pick a woman who is obviously above 18 (ask for her identity card if unsure).
(4) If unfortunately worse comes to worst, and the ploy ends up happening to you, do not get impressed by the policeman's uniform. Don't argue with him. I recommend that you assume that you are being robbed by the two of them: by the girl and by the policeman. Therefore pay them what they are asking and leave the place very quickly.
(5)If you end up at the police station, things are more decent there, so be careful with what you say - do not offend the local authorities. Although at the police station they are aware of the ploy, they have to press charges according to the local law because you do not have any witnesses in your favor. Prepare your wallet to spit out a few thousand dollars in lawyers' fees. The fees are high because the supposed crime is very serious indeed.
I assume that this is all happening because of a crackdown on prostitution that has been happening in Recife for the last couple of years.
Fellow horny guys, Recife is definitely not any more a good place to go for sex in Brazil.

Please let me note something first: I believe I am not, nor will ever be, the "typical" sex-tourist, so hungry for girls that I have to pay. But, as many of you suggested Brazil for a GFE, I said to myself, let’s try! I have been 6 times to Brazil before... normal trips for work and to meet friends I made there. I even had a girlfriend for over two years... a good normal girl with education, who was never working in the business. So I can say, Brazilians are very nice people in general!
Back to the update now... Regarding the situation in Recife: My experiences were disgusting! I had chosen a 4/5 star hotel in Boa Viagem. In these hotels it is impossible to bring a girl to your room, so you always have to go to a motel, which might be more safe of course for your belongings, but is currently 50-100 R$ (=25-50 US$) if you want to stay in a nice one. To go there by taxi and come back is more: 20-40 R$ (=10-20 US$). The first evening I went to the "famous" Praca Boa Viagem, but this is really a dead place like all the city! Most of the bars which existed there are closed or broken down because Recife doesn’t have the attention of foreign male tourists anymore.
Most of the street hookers you can find are on Avenida Conselheiro Aquilar (one way street parallel to the beach in the direction of Pina Beach). They just wait on the left side and you go there by taxi. Let the driver stop a little to look, talk a little, and choose. People told me the best day is Friday because then it has some non-professionals who just need money for the weekend party. The current price for the girls from the street is 50-150 R$ (=25-75 US$). Some girls might offer to do without condom for 100 R$ more... your decision, if you think they are without diseases… If you go to a night club like Samba, the quality might be better (haven’t been there), but you pay 200-300 R$ (=100-150 US$).
Anyway, I met a really beautiful girl who came to the simple bar at Placa Boa Viagem and we went to a motel. She was not an everyday street girl like all the others I have seen later, only selling her body from time to time when she needs money. Unfortunately, I needed some help of a guy (his name was Gugu... if you meet him, kick his ass! *grrr*) to translate between German and Portuguese, and with this the problems started. I met my girl more one day, then she disappeared. She warned me about all the "Gugus" but I ignored the warning. This guy, who is in fact a pimp, and his friends didn’t like our relationship, and for sure not her being a freelancer in their area. They took all her money, forced her to stay with them in a slum area, and maybe beating her. I know this because after one week and a lot of talks, I understand at least a little how the scene works there.
Even if you cannot notice it, all the street girls are under control of their pimps, and there is a big supporting mafia. A lot of eyes (oleos) watching, as she and other girls told me. This mafia structure includes taxi drivers, food-selling people at the beach, street kids and the police. As long as you pay for everybody you have no problem, but I am sure you will be dead meat if you don’t follow their rules, as I did. A life is worth nothing in Brazilian favelas! These “helping” guys will ask you for money (50-100 R$) and later take at least 50% of the girl's money. This is maybe one reason why the "service" of 3 girls I had was no GFE at all. How would you like to sell your body for just 15 US$ if the prices in the supermarket are as in Europe or the States, and the taxi driver gets the same money? The girls just want you to get off and then leave the hotel as soon as possible. No kissing, no blowjob, no passion, nothing.
So here is my advice: - Learn some Portuguese, or at least Spanish! - Never pay anything in advance. - Feed the bad guys with 10 R$ for translation and information, pay them a drink. - Never choose a girl when the guys can notice! - Choose a taxi yourself, maybe near your hotel, and drive the Avenida Conselheiro alone. Don’t worry, all taxi drivers know what’s going on. - Choose a girl, but don’t take her with you or let somebody (even other girls) notice your interest. - Tell the girl to meet you the next day at early afternoon at a safe place, i.e. big shopping center. She might give a suggestion which place is safe for her. The beach is not safe (many eyes watching)! - The next day, just do her at daytime. She will arrange all with the motel, taxi driver, etc., and for sure will be more happy because she can keep all the money you pay! - Ask her, maybe she can go with you to another beach or city for some hot beach action. Porto de Galinhas and Itamaraca Island are wonderful areas about 60 km away and there are Pousadas (small hotels) everywhere. Again, she can do the talking and find the way around, you just drive and pay the car. :-) - Rent a flat if you want to avoid the costs for motels every night. But be careful, they might be under control of the mafia structures. If they are, you might have problems passing the guard of the house with your new girl(s).
Well, finally some hints: - Even the pimps say that Fortaleza and Natal are the better places to go for sex right now. - A good friend suggested the night clubs of Porto Alegre in south of Brazil (300-400 R$). - From Germany you can reach Recife and other areas quite easy by TAP Air Portugal, and inside Brazil, TAM. There are no direct flights available or charter. - Hotel prices are much cheaper if booked by a Brazilian agency. I just come back from a two week trip to Boa Viagem, the residential area of Recife, in the North-East of Brazil. Well... big regret. There was not much action left there, compared to what forums related 2 or 3 years ago. The Shakatak is now closed (or seems to be) for the season. They destroyed the building behind, a hideout of drug dealers and various crimes.
Still working: Sampa Club on Avenida Conseilheros. Girls are 5-8, looking at you as a real prey. Sure you can get good service for no more than 50$ (entrance fee + drink + taxi included), but don't expect nothing more than that. They can pretend being in love with you, wanting to marry you and get back to your country, have children, blablabla... but once the money is gone, they will find another prey... You are warned.
Also, Bamboo club, close to Praca do Boa Viagem. Pretty same kind of place like Sampa. A bit cheaper. Owner is German, so expect to find most tourists from there. Same prices to pick the girls out. You will find some of these girls on the beach during the day. You can also meet them directly there and talk to them.
One thing: learn Portuguese before leaving, 'cause you'll be surprised how low-educated Brazilians can be. No English spoken, or you're a lucky man if you find one!
Street action: From Praca do Boa Viagem up to Pinha District (north Boa Viagem), there are still a few girls/travestis waiting for cars to stop. According to previous reviews, it seems that the market in Recife has strongly decreased. You can still have fun, but my advice would be: you don't have to stay more than a few days. I travel to Recife at least once per year. It is a great alternative to the more high-priced action in the south, i.e., Rio & Sao Paulo. Spend most of your time in Boa Viagem, which is the Beverly Hills of Recife. Most of the pick-up bars are there and it has the best beach in Recife. Recife changes in the last years. The beach scene to boa viagem consists only of beach salesmen, however very nice and attentive humans. Good beach-pubs exists unfortunately not any longer. The daily costs are very favorably, since the Brazilian real lost more than 40 percent. You get the normal dinner in one Comida a Kilo starting from approx. 5-6 reals (about 5 german marks or 3 euro) to be already full and much distinguished, very delicious.
The night scene essentially play themselves around the old church. the girls are fantastic, always nicely and naturally, the most beautiful of the world, with the best espirit and the horniest butts, which never stops samba dancing.
Go in the evening into TERTULIA, a restaurant (for 15 real you can eat as much as you like) and a open air terrace with live musik. Here is the starting point of many chics, where you have a good overview of the girls. easily Smile to your favorite, then she will come to your desk.~~

Recife is a hot spot in Brazil !
During daytime nearly all the girls at the beach ""Boa Viagem"" are available. At night check the ""Eclipse""-disco or the ""Chakatak"" both near Boa Viagem. The rates are from ""for free"" (if she falls in love with you) to about 50 Real (=about 50 US$) for a night. Best months are Dec. until March. (= Brazilian summer, means more girls at the beach).
