Prostitution sting nabs West Fargo woman
The Fargo Police Department conducted a prostitution sting on Nov. 29, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals, one of them from West Fargo.
Heather xxxx, 27, Fargo; and Ashley xxxx, 20, West Fargo, were taken into custody on charges of prostitution.
Prostitution is a class B misdemeanor punishable by a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and/or a $1000 fine.
This operation targeted “adult entertainment” companies and individuals advertising their “exotic dancing” services.
Fargo Lt. Pat Claus said the operation was entirely proactive in nature, based on an increased number of suspicious advertisements in the newspaper, which has risen from a few operators in years past to an average of 12-18 such entities advertising on any given day, and also on criminal intelligence the police gathered.
“We set them up,” Claus confirmed, noting that it took the Police Department about one day to arrange the sting, which was conducted with the assistance of a motel in south Fargo.
“Coupled with our past experience in these types of stings, operations run a standard pattern using police-accepted procedure,” he said. “This was based on increased criminal intelligence we had obtained from people with whom we have contact who have themselves contacted these services and found out they were more than just simply exotic dancers.”
Without disclosing details of the set-up, which was similar to a staged police drug buy, Claus said the women were arrested on two separate cases, based on calls to their services and contact they had with undercover agents.
Claus pledged there will be additional stings targeting providers and solicitors of prostitution services in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
The Fargo Police Department intends to continue to conduct proactive investigations in the future which will target the consumer component of prostitution as well as continuing operations targeting those who provide this illegal activity.

One of the strippers arrested in February was convicted of prostitution in a jury trial, no less.
Meanwhile, in July, there was a prostitution arrest at a Fargo motel. A woman from Sioux City, Iowa was arrested at a motel near West Acres Mall. The police refused to say which hotel. The police were tipped off and sent in an undercover, who made the arrest. One officer said it was the first undercover prostitution sting he could remember in 17 years on the force. Pathetic. Just pathetic. The police say they believe prostitutes set up temporarily in Fargo and then leave for other (add better) cities. Like when they figure out there's no money in this shithole dump waste of space on the map. |
Oh, also there was confirmation that, in regard to the two arrests in February, the police contacted the dancers through ads placed in a newspaper. Meaning, of course, the High Plains Reader. There are about three ads running in each issue, now, all giving a number for escorts and pleading that they are hiring. Some interesting information in the article. One cop on the force can't recall a prostitution arrest in 17 years. The police mention that, back in the 1980's, there used to be prostitution at a truck stop outside of Fargo. (There is a funny allusion to this fact in the movie Fargo, truly an accurate and insightful depiction of this area) The last time before the time in the 1980's was in 1941. Yes, that's nineteen forty one. Pre-Pearl Harbor, for god's sake.
The heat is on these companies and, in Fargo, that's a hell of a lot of heat. Too many cops, far too few services, and too much attention paid to the matter by the locals who imagine it can't happen in North Dakota. Because most of the time it really can't. Avoid, avoid, avoid this area. Do not get ripped off. Drive on through, or proceed north to Winnipeg. But if you want to take your chances, the ads for the services can be found in the High Plains Reader, an artsy fartsy weekly you can pick up for free various places around town.

Here's the latest on Fargo from your correspondent in the cold. I went into one of the back rooms at the Northern in late October. When I say "rooms" I mean a series of black curtains with about a foot of space off the floor, no privacy, and you can tell nothing is going on because no telltale smells. Waste of twenty bucks. You're better off buying porno and the convenience store across the parking lot has a fantastic selection. After finding out that a local police officer got himself in a scandal by hooking up with a dancer from the Northern (there is only one erotic dance establishment in Fargo) and had been getting sex, I thought, well, maybe it would be possible to get a number off one of the girls and get her back to a hotel room for a private session.
