Our hope is that the district court will allow us to padlock the premises for two years, and the business will disappear.” Stuart said the attorney for the business owners, Charles O’Hara, was correct when he stated that her motives in closing down the business were political. “It was something that needed to be done for years, and I thought it would be something no one would expect from me,” the mayor said at the press conference. “Do the right thing for the city and possibly make some citizens more comfortable having me their mayor.” That changed, Stuart said, when she went into the building after the arrests were made and saw the three young women in handcuffs. They were 18, 20 and 21 years old, she said. The youngest was charged with prostitution. “One slightly built young woman had on baby doll pajamas with ‘Baby Girl’ printed across the front,” Stuart said. “These women are little more than girls about the age of my oldest grandsons. And when I looked at them, I just couldn’t see a rosy future for them. Woman faces third charge of prostitution.
For the third time in less than two years, a Prairie Village woman is facing prostitution charges.
xxx was arrested Thursday night after allegedly offering to perform a sex act for $100 with a “customer” who was actually an undercover Prairie Village police officer.
xxx, 32, was charged Friday in Johnson County District Court with a misdemeanor count of prostitution. Bond was set at $1,000, and a judge entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf.
Police said the arrest resulted from a tip they had received about alleged prostitution activity at xxx’s residence in the 8100 block of Lamar Avenue.
Johnson County District Court records show that xxx was charged in 2003 with prostitution and promoting prostitution at a residence in Lenexa. In April 2004 she was placed on diversion for one year. The agreement with prosecutors called for her to contact Veronica’s Voice, a local organization that helps women get out of prostitution.
If she complied with terms of the agreement and stayed out of trouble for a year, the charges would have been dismissed.
But last November, Prairie Village police arrested xxx and charged her with prostitution. She pleaded no contest in Municipal Court in March and was fined $200, according to court records.
Based on that conviction, Johnson County prosecutors filed a motion to revoke her diversion in the 2003 case.
The diversion agreement was revoked last month, and the case was scheduled for a possible plea next Thursday. That’s the same day xxx is due in court for her next appearance on the new charge.
