Sheriff's deputies and neighborhood activists have devised a brilliant plan to get rid of drug dealers and prostitutes who congregate beneath a large oak on a county right-of-way on Cypress Street. They want to cut down the tree, which was once named in a neighborhood beautification grant. Thirty to forty arrests per month happen near the tree, and by golly, they're holding the tree accountable. Ya know, I popped the cherry on Fort Myers and now the city is working me like a dog. Information current as of late July. The police conducted a sting operation directed against johns, but also caught one street walker along the way. Eighteen men and one woman arrested. The street walker was 32. The youngest man was 18, the oldest 68, and about half were hispanic. The sting was conducted at 5 pm on a Tuesday at the intersection of Cleveland and Linhart Avenues. Ten men were arrested in a sting in front of the Wash Bowl laundromat on Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers. 55 men arrested for the year in Fort Myers, which is the average, usually, for an entire year. Stings at Palm Beach Boulevard and Oleander Avenue. Police say they do monthly stings and vary the locations to let the prostitutes and johns know they will eventually get caught. The other laundromat down the street from Wash Bowl, owned by the same owner, has a NO LOITERING sign and prostitution is reportedly common around that location, too. (Review # 9500)

Since there is no information at all for Fort Myers, it is my privilege to pop the cherry. Information current as of October 23, 2003. The Fort Myers Police Department arrested nine men and three women Thursday afternoon and evening in a sting operation in Fort Myers.
The investigation spanned the hours of 2 to 7 p.m. on Cleveland Avenue near the intersection with Linhart Avenue after locals told police there had been increasing prostitution activity. The three females were arrested, then female police took their place. (Double tier) The vehicles of six men were siezed and the owners have to pay a $500 impound fee. This was the situation in Panama City in summer of 2000. The Bay Villa Motel off U.S. 98 is a hot spot, even in the middle of the day, though the manager is getting fed up. Panama City police conducted sting operations on St. Andrews netting 4 women and 12 men. The year before, the department made 53 arrests. Harrison Avenue is a popular prostitution area, and the St. Andrews area. Girls actually spent little time on the streets due to the high demand. The Blue Bay hotel is a "no tolerance" zone, however the sidewalk out front is busy all night, as is the area in front of the Panama Cafe. U.S. 98 hotel businesses renting regularly to prostitutes. The Gainesville Police Department has an excellent website which shows the real names, faces, and birthdays of prostitutes picked up in sting operations. Street locations were 300 NE 16th Street, 500 ne 17th Terrace, NE 17th Street, 100 NE 16th Street, 500 SW 4th Street, 300 SW 5th Avenue. ~~~~An analysis of the November 29, 2001 data as follows. Five women, four black and one white. Ages 36, 22, 25, 31, 42. Street locations were 1600 NE 4th Avenue, 1700 block of NE 3rd ave, se 19th Street, 1600 block of NE 3rd ave, 400 block of NW 5th Avenue. The police were, naturally, running operations to arrest johns at the same time. From July to October of 2002 police arrested 13 unlucky alleged johns in sting operations. In the same time period they arrested 10 black women, ages 22, 47, 30, 42, 52, 52, 34, 44, 25, 30, and five white women, 32, 26, 22, 32, 37.~~ (Review # 6633)
