The Manatee County Sheriff's Office today released the results of a (reverse reverse) reverse prostitution sting operation conducted in the 3300 block of 14th Street West, Bradenton, on Nov. 17 by its (very tricky) Tactical Unit.
The operation was conducted from 4 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. on a Friday night. (Or was that afternoon, evening, and night? Hard to tell! They're so tricky!)
Eleven males were charged with solicitation for prostitution. In addition to the solicitation charge, two persons were also charged with having no valid drivers' license and one was charged with obstruction, for not giving his name. (So was that eleven total? Four other persons were charged with attempted purchase of rock cocaine. One of those was also charged with battery.

BOCA RATON — Last month, the city attorney's office drafted a list of "no's" relating to an enterprise that has yet to surface in Boca Raton: adult entertainment.
The list is long and explicit. No full nudity. No touching. No lap dances. No sex. No minors.
An overhaul of city regulations that pertain to adult entertainment came after businessman Dean Cohen inquired about opening a sexually oriented business, Mayor Steven Abrams said. Cohen operates an adult entertainment club, he said.
"I don't know if similar inquiries were made in the past," Abrams said.
Cohen could not be reached for comment. No adult entertainment businesses exist in Boca Raton, city officials said.
The city council mulled the proposed changes during a public hearing Tuesday night. If the city council approves the new regulations on Aug. 9, they would apply to adult book, novelty and video stores; dancing establishments, motels, theaters and modeling studios and massage parlors.
"The intent is to protect our neighborhoods and I believe the regulations will do that," Councilwoman Susan Haynie said.
They would govern how such businesses would operate and where they would be located. They were first introduced on June 28, the same night the city council approved a law barring sex offenders from living within 1,500 feet of schools, school bus stops, parks and day-care centers.
Deputy City Manager George Brown said the two laws had nothing to do with each other. It was coincidence they came up at the same city council meeting.
On Aug. 9, the city council also is to consider a law requiring employees of adult entertainment businesses, who must be at least 18, to get work identification cards from the police department.
Boca Raton has had problems with brothels recently. In March, police said there were at least seven brothels operating in the city. Police raided and closed the Dreamscape massage parlor in March after a 2 1/2 -year investigation. The closure prompted three brothels to voluntarily close in mid-April.
Under the new regulations, adult businesses would have to close from 2 a.m. to noon every day. In addition, they could only operate in industrial areas west of Interstate 95 and north of Yamato Road. Those areas are zoned for warehousing and manufacturing, said Development Services Director Jorge Camejo.
Adult businesses also would have to be located 300 feet away from public and private schools, parks and any churches or places of worship.
The new law also requires that stripping take place on a stage in a dancing club and that patrons remain at least 4 feet away from the stage. Adult theaters must be constructed of materials that can be cleaned with a bleach solution, the proposed law states.
The restrictions did not satisfy Thomas Laird, president of the South Congress Industrial Center Property Owners Association. A preschool, a children's gymnasium and dance studios are in the industrial area, he said. Council members cringed.
"When I tell people the city is planning to place these businesses in the industrial area, they don't believe me," Laird said. "This is Boca, they say."

A six-hour prostitution sting on Main Street in Titusville nabbed two men and four women as police targeted both sides of the sex trade.
On Thursday, Titusville Police put a male and a female undercover officers to pose as a "john" and a prostitute, respectively, for six hours on a stretch of Main Street between U.S. 1 and Park Avenue, Titusville Police Cmdr. John Lau said.
"It's always in the Main Street area, however, if the girls move we'll move with them," Lau said. [The same is also true for us, Lau]
xxx, 21, and xxx, 68, were arrested for soliciting sex. Four women were arrested for prostitution, which is punishable by between 60 days and one year in jail depending on previous convictions.
The women arrested were 20,36,37 and 30.

Officials Prostitutes less common in downtown Palatka--early June, 2005.
A year ago, police officials and downtown business owners were participating in a series of meetings, trying to figure out how to stop Palatka's prostitution problem.
Apparently, they made some progress.
In the past several months, there have been no police stings to stop prostitutes, mainly because Palatka Police Chief Gary Getchell said he has not had any recent complaints.
"It's been kind of quiet on that side of the fence," Getchell said by telephone Wednesday.
"We haven't had any down my way," said Sam Deputy, a downtown businessman who acted as spokesman for the prostitution task force. "It's been rather nice to go outside and not have that."
The task force meetings led to a series of forums in late 2003 and early 2004 in which police officials taught citizens about the prostitution problem and business leaders in turn offered suggestions on how to fight it. Deputy said he believed those meetings are to thank for the reduction in prostitutes walking the streets of Palatka.
"We went through the process of what the roots of the problem are. We thought they were down here making money, but it's just for drugs," Deputy said.
Downtown merchants now cooperate to identify prostitutes, Deputy said. Getchell said that there seems to have been increased business activity downtown, reversing some of the neighborhood decline that can draw prostitutes.
"When you have a lot more economic activity going on, prostitutes tend to go away," Getchell said. "It changes the dynamics downtown."
While there may not be a problem now, Getchell said prostitutes seem to disappear for about 18 months, then return. Once arrested, prostitutes are entered in a mapping system created by the police and local judges, in which a condition of their probation is
that they stay away from the areas they once worked. If they do show up within a mile of the place they were arrested, they are subject to arrest for violation of probation.
"In essence, what we're doing is drying up their business," Getchell said.
The stings — which require five to seven officers for at least four or five hours — are too costly to operate when there is no activity to speak of, Getchell said, so none will be set up until the complaints begin again. Deputy said he believes some of the ladies of the night are gone for good.
"I think we've put a break in the cycle," Deputy said. "The word is on the streets, ‘Don't come down St. Johns Avenue.'"

Bar manager xxx, the women dancers and a man guarding the VIP room were arrested late Wednesday. They all face charges for violating a Leon County ordinance prohibiting nudity in a business that serves alcohol, said Wiley Meggs, a detective with the Sheriff's Office vice unit. Two undercover deputies went to the bar late Wednesday after getting a tip, said Meggs, who is the son of State Attorney Willie Meggs. "In the main area, there were pool-table dances where the females would get on the pool table and they would pull down their G-strings and expose (their genitals)," he said. "But they weren't fully nude."
According to Meggs, the undercover deputies asked one of the dancers what was happening. "One female said, 'Oh, we're dancing out here,'" he said. "'But if you go in the VIP room for $10, we'll dance nude for one song and we'll do more as you continue to tip.'" The undercover officer paid a man standing in front of the VIP room $10 for entry, a sheriff's report said.
Once the officer got inside, a woman gave him a lap dance and then took off her shirt, exposing her breasts, according to the report. Then after the first song ended, the woman said it would cost more if he wanted her to continue. He gave her more money and she "took her (shorts) off, being completely nude," the report said. After additional deputies came into the bar to arrest the people, xxx was interviewed, Meggs said. "After speaking with Mr. xxx, he said he hired the females as entertainment, like a band you'd have come to a bar or like at a Hooters restaurant where there are attractive women walking around," Meggs said. xxx did not return calls for comment. During the interview, Meggs said, xxx said he didn't know about the VIP room or the women flashing customers on pool tables.

Info current as of early November, 2004. Police in Gainesville ran a sting operation, street unknown, brown nosing local television news crew dragged along. Police claim they run the prostitution detail "once a month." It only took seven minutes for a john to approach the undercover officer and offer her twenty bucks for sex.
