Prostitution sting brings in 46 "johns" POMONA - An undercover operation targeting prostitution in Pomona netted 46 "johns" and nine prostitutes over an eight-hour period Thursday. The operation was conducted by the Pomona Police Department with assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Vice Team, according to a police statement. The sting was carried out from 1 to 9 p.m. One "john" -- who was on parole -- was arrested for possession of crack cocaine for sales. Another man was arrested for methamphetamine possession and a third for drunk driving. One potential customer was driving a cab, and another was driving his employer's plumbing company truck. Additionally, two other men attempted to solicit prostitutes while riding bicycles. [Were those "bicycles built for two?"] Potential "johns" caught soliciting while in their vehicles also had their cars taken through the city's forfeiture ordinance. BALDWIN PARK -- The owner of a massage parlor that was the target of a prostitution sting is looking to renew a conditional-use permit in Baldwin Park.The owner of Green Spa, the site of two prostitution-related arrests in 2002, is scheduled to go before the planning commission next month after the spa's lawyer postponed the public hearing for the third time Wednesday, officials said. Those arrested were not convicted of the crimes. The city's planning staff is recommending the conditional-use permit be renewed. "We couldn't deny the project ... based on the two prior arrests,' said Salvador Lopez, an associate planner with the city.While the staff is recommending the planning commission approve the permit, the Baldwin Park Police Department is asking the members to deny it. "That (the arrests) is a concern with our department,' said Baldwin Park Police Sgt. David Reynoso. "That place is not really too far from schools, it's close to other businesses. 'Four massage parlors operate in the city. Reynoso said prostitution-related arrests have been made at other establishments, and that is why the department wrote the massage-parlor ordinance, which dictates a dress code and well as prohibiting the sale of condoms and sex toys at the parlors. Green Spa has been in business since 1999 and has had two successful extensions on its permits, officials said.Also, it has been inspected twice by city officials, who found it was operating in compliance with its permits.Lopez said the spa's attorney, Joseph T. Vodnoy, asked for a continuance on the public hearing this last time so the spa's owner can have time to comply with new rules set forth by an ordinance the City Council adopted last year. Neither Vodnoy nor the spa's owner, could be reached for comment Thursday. Each massage therapist, as well as the owner, must take a test devised by the police department. The test will include questions regarding the operation of the spa.All employees of the spa must also undergo a background check by the police department. And, if there is any change in personnel, the city must be notified within 24 hours. The next planning commission meeting at which the hearing is scheduled May 25. (Review # 11167)

Info current as of early July, 2004. Fresno police officers arrested four men during a five hour sting on Blackstone Avenue in central Fresno. After agreeing to pay an undercover female police officer $20 for oral sex, (price entrapment) the men drove to a nearby hotel. Vice officers in unmarked cars converged on them before they reached the motel's entrance. Crime suppression teams conduct prostitution stings once a month in each of the city's five districts, and the vice squad does smaller operations in response to complaints and "problem areas."

Eureka has become concerned enough about SW's that they've passed a new ordinance to make it possible to seize vehicles. There is reportedly prostitution around the Hotel Carter. Info current as of early November, 2004. The 59-year-old female owner of a massage parlor was arrested for prostitution. The MP is located on the 1200 block of Plaza in Escalon. This is the cherry popping first post for Escalon. Local police tried to bust the place over and over, based on widespread rumors of prostitution. They finally had to get a cop from neighboring Manteca. The MP has two other female employees. After the arrest, city officials were talking about trying to revoke the business license of the establishment. The place opened in August, 2004, and the female owner is originally from Hawaii. Info current as of late December, 2004. Prostitution is becoming major problem in Flag City, county officials say. This area is near Modesto and Stockton. There was once prostitution at the Flying J truck stop in Ripon, but it has moved north to this area. The lot lizards are visible from the windows of a paramedic station. There are, naturally, more of them in the summer. The women are dropped off while the pimp waits in a parking lot or around the corner. Six months ago, the sheriff tried to "eradicate" prostitution in the area, but it keeps coming back. When a deputy comes out, usually it's too late, or all the deputy can do is cite the trucker for parking in a no-parking zone. Prostitution is also rampant at the Flying J Truck Stop across Highway 12, but has apparently been wiped out at the Flying J in Ripon along Highway 99. Flag city is remote, so enforcement there is difficult. At Blue Beacon Truck Wash in Flag City, when prostitutes come around, they're told to leave by the management. There is still prostitution at a truck stop on Highway 4 in Stockton, but that city has an ordinance in place that allows the police to impound the trucks. The truckers have to pay a hefty fine to get their trucks back. It's not uncommon for police to arrest girls from Modesto, Fresno, San Francisco and even from out of state. They travel quite a bit. And, incredibly, the police say that most of the prostitutes are no longer hooked on hard drugs. They're younger girls, working for their pimps. Maybe they're involved in mild or moderate drug use. Businesses in the area don't want the word out that there are prostitutes in the area. So, you know, forget what you just read.

There are two massage parlors that I know of in Lancaster. One is on Avenue I and 10th (the one mentioned in an earlier review behind the Autozone). There is also one further up 10th Street between K and J. Its near a Baskin Robbins right past the post office on the East side of the street. Watch out, because the report says the undercover police officer approached men who merely appeared to be "loitering for purposes of prostitution." So it sounds like the approach was aggressive and, furthermore, most of the men arrested seem to have been hispanic or, well, Indian or Pakistani. Their names were published in a local paper, too. Four women were arrested on a Friday afternoon in an area that encompasses the southern portion of Claremont and northern Pomona.
