Ten arrested at unlicensed strip club, late July, 2005.
Ten people were arrested Wednesday and charged in connection with working at an unlicensed strip club in the Down the Bay area of Mobile, police said.
Undercover narcotics and vice officers watched four women removing their clothing during a performance at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bay Lounge, 609 South Carolina St., located southeast of downtown Mobile, Cpl. Marcus Young, a police spokesman, said in a news release.
None of the employees of the club had adult entertainers cards, which are required by a city of Mobile ordinance, said Officer Eric Gallichant, another police spokesman. The violation is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, Gallichant said.
In order to obtain an adult entertainer's license, a person must apply at the Police Department, pass a background check and pay a fee, Gallichant said. The fee is $100 and people must apply annually, Gallichant said. Applicants with any previous arrests in the past year on prostitution-related charges can be denied, the police spokesman said. The club as well as all employees of the business must be licensed.
The owner of the Bay Lounge may face charges for not having a license, Gallichant said.
All 10 people were released from Mobile County Metro Jail on $500 bail, according to the jail log.

Police in Mobile conducted a sting against prostitution and drugs in the area of Martin Luther King Avenue and Congress Streets after residents and officials from Bishop State Community College officials complained about the area. Five women were arrested and charged. Their ages were 40, 46, 43, 42, 27. Two were caught with drugs. Three men were charged with soliciting prostitution. Information current as of early July, 2004. Spurred by residents' complaints, Mobile police arrested 16 people on prostitution charges in the Oakleigh district, including two city sanitation workers who were on duty at the time. The stings were at Church and Palmetto streets, between Maine and Broad Streets. There is reportedly drug activity in the area, which has low income housing and a lot of people going through the area. Gee, if it's in Alabama isn't it automatically low income housing?
