Me and my friend were in turkey for the business trip in march 2008, and from the moment we reached Istanbul airport, we were cheated by airport people, I have been traveling so many countries for business and also for entertainment, but I have never found such mentally criminal people and thugs, any where in the world, from taxi driver to shop keeper from bars to night club or anywhere, even govt. offices, all will try to cheat you.
In the airport we bought mobile sim, they cheated us, inside the airport we exchange money they cheated us, outside the airport the taxi driver he cheated us.
When reach hotel near hotel gate there was a guy trying to sell some watches and trying to cheat us. when I want to buy mobile charger which is around $3 to $5 in any country but they charge us $15. All the taxi drivers will always choose wrong road to go anywhere. 15 min drive they will make it 30 to 40 min just to charge extra money.
In the market suddenly you will notice somebody is following you and will try to talk to you and if they found you are interested in talking then they will ask you if you want any girl, and one time we said yes we want then he bring us to a bar where two Russian whore were bring to sit with us and immediately the waiter bring 2 ladies drink without asking us. and then later asked us what we will bring, we ordered normal beer. Suddenly I notices the person who bring us to this bar he was talking slowly something with the bar manager.
Then I realized something is happening, so I just ask the waiter how much is one drink, because they did not bring any menu card or books for the snacks. then he said not expensive,by that time the ladies finished their drinks in one sip and the waiter brings another 2 ladies drinks immediately. then I said what is going on? By now I was aware that we were already cheated and now we will be in trouble. I asked the manager to bring the bill, then he bring the bill of 430 Lira which is equal to US$400/- just imagine we did not even touch those women (they are not girls) very old women around 30 to 35 years of age. We know that we were already ripped off and we can't do any thing now, so just gave them the amount in bill and went out from that place and the guy who bring us to that place was disappeared.
Then we wanted to go another city for business purpose and went to travel agency and after buying ticket requested them to book 2 rooms in 4 star hotel they showed us in the computer very nice hotel and beautiful rooms and also charged us $160/night each room but when we were there we found that hotel was not even 3 star.
These are only few of the so many cheating that we were faced during one weak stay in turkey.
So please stay away of this fucking country, if you see properly to all the local people's face, you will find 90% of the peoples face looks like criminal, no politeness in their face, they think they are Europeans, but I think they are shits of Europeans. (Review # 24122)

I visited Istanbul for the 2nd time in June of 2008.
Let me tell you, I don't just say I've been everywhere, I actually have visited over 90 countries.
Turkey and in particular Istanbul is filled with dishonest, thieves who will attempt to cheat you at every opportunity.
From cabbies, to restaurants, cafes, merchants, Hammam operators and just about anyone else who notices that you are not a local.
There was a man here on WSG who complained that Turkey should be categorized under Europe. Well that is exactly part of the problem. Turks think they're European and the high prices here are even higher than Europe but one look at the streets, the people and the infrastructure and most importantly the mentality of the people will quickly tell you this a one messed up middle eastern country which nothing more than a wanna be Europe, which it never will be.
Taxis and everything else is very very expensive. 30 dollars for typical rides. Everyone asks for Euro, and that is not even the currency of the country. Cars have European Union format license plates but they are not even admitted into the union yet and they never should be. The sad part is, if these people tried to be honest and give people a fair shake they would actually make more money, but alas the criminal mind is an inferior mind.
As for women, the bars in Taxim are nothing more than brutal clip joints run by thieves. I can see how Russian girls would fit into these picture as Russians notoriously have no trouble with a life of crime.
As for the famous local whorehouse called (Genelev), it is true that it exist and it is true that the price is 30 liras for full service, however there is cop at the door, checking Id's and if you are not a Turkish citizen, you are rudely turned away. The cheap local whorehouse is strictly for Turks only. There is another cheap whorehouse across the street from Genel Ev, but the same story, Id's are checked and non Turks are absolutely not welcomed.
I am disgusted with this terrible country filled with thieves. Not being able to enter local whorehouse was the last straw.

Hi Guys! I am a Turkish citizen residing in Izmir, Turkey. I love traveling around the world and having benefited from the comments in this site in places like Czech Republic, Ukraine and Thailand. I guess I owe a guide to the travelers to my country from the eyes of a citizen.
First of all, I regret to see that Turkey is listed amongst the other Arabic Middle East countries. We are geographically and culturally (particularly west part) a European country. Anyway, you will decide when you visit here.
General Info about having fun, nightlife and sex anywhere in Turkey: For an American or a North European Turkish, it is a cheap paradise in general if you act carefully. Don't bother using public transportation... just take a taxi unless your way is too long. Make sure the driver activates the taxi-meter so that he won't be able to fool you.
Food, transportation, textiles, accomandation. etc. are quite cheap but not the night life. In Istanbul you will find several best clubs in Europe but the entrance fees and drinks are not cheap at all. You pay around 20 Euros for getting in and 10 Euros for a drink in a high quality local bar. I am 30 years old and I have never needed to go to a strip club in Turkey and I have heard many stories like getting ripped. So especially if you look like a foreigner from 50 meters, beware of the strip clubs!
But don't worry, you will find what you're looking for easily.
1) Easiest and Cheapest Sex: Kerane --- is the Turkish word for whore house or red light district. You won't have your best sex ever but if you don't wanna go back without scoring, it's worth a try. There are Keranes in every city in Turkey. Just tell a taxi driver and he'll take you there. You won't pay more than US$30 for the most beautiful girl with full service there. Kerane is in Karakoy in Istanbul, in Tepecik in Izmir. It costs at most 10 Liras (5 Euros) from centrum in Izmir.
2) Massage Parlours in Hotels: I don't know any of these in Istanbul but in Izmir, you can visit Hotel Ismira (right accross Hilton) or Hotel Marla all located in the centrum. They are clean 3 - 4 star hotels, just step in and ask for the massage room. There's a good amount of street action going on in Alsanjak but after 11:30 or so, you need to be careful because it turns into all TV's. Before that though you can pick up a girl for about US$50 - 60 and then they want to go to one of several houses in the area that are set up for them. I did that once and did not like it. After about 10 minutes in the room, they started beating on the door and the girl told me to hurry. It will be about 70YTL(hotel) + 150YTL (girl) + about 50YTL for Seranda will be around 270YTL ($180) You can get girls cheaper if you can find a trustworthy pezevenk (to find a trustworthy one, your chances are very very slim but maybe a friend or a driver or a bellboy for a 10$ tip may help you) without paying to the club.
I know a pezevenk and I get girls for $80-90. But I am a returning customer. I used to pay about $100 in the early days.

Went to Bacardi last night and it definetely ıs a save place. I was the only foreıgner ın the entire place except for the about 50 Russian girls. I just came back from Istanbul on Feb 20th 2006. Anyone who want to travel to Istanbul for sex better read this posting to avoid being ripped off.

First off, I enter Istanbul with the references from previous listings on this board.I must say some of these listings are old and misleading.
Altin Ishik hotel is nowhere to be found. Asking the taxi drivers only prompted shrugs of indifference and puzzled look from the largely non-English speaker taxi drivers. I went to Big Pub and let me tell you, the girls ther e are either old or homely and the younger ones are not up to par for my taste.
Anyone is in for a quick fuck is probably okay with it but why travel this far to fuck someone uglier that the ones you can get back home and pay for it to boot?
Having said that, I ended up at Bacardi Bar, apparently the high end and famous bar in Istanbul to pick up Eastern Euro girls. I was there the first night and asked two girls to sit down and negotiate, I went with the second girl. All I had to drink was a cup of tea and the bill come to 70 Lira! Plus 5 Lira tip for the host who was not satisfied with it even though he did nothing much in term of service.
I was bilked out of another 20 Lira at the coat check counter claiming that I have to pay 20 Lira for the girl's coat being hung in the coat check rack.
Then we went to the hotel of the girl's choosing wher e the reception proceed to hustle $ 60 US dollar for the room, contrary to the girl's info that the room was suppose to cost only 60 Lira.
At this point I need to inform readers that all the hotels at Aksaray-Laleli area Prohibit you from bringing girls back to your room, especially the Russian girls, because they know the girls are hookers and they are barred from all the hotels especially the higher end ones in the area.
So make your travel arrangement accordingly and avoid booking into hotels in the Aksaray-Laleli area. Thats' why I have to go to the hotel of the girl's choosing and continued being screwed out of my money.
This first girl I am with, is a money milker, once we arrived, she asked for drink that I have to pay, which is totally overpriced. I can guarantee you that she will get some cut from the hotel from the room fee to the drinks and other expenses I paid for bringing me to their establishment. To the Credit of Bacardi Bar, all the girls there, or 80 % of the girls there are hotties.
A week later I went back to Bacardi Bar because I spotted a really hot supermodel type the week before but she was snatched up so quickly that I did not have a chance to ask for her in previous visit.
The way it work in Bacardi Bar is that you go in, sit down, the host ask you for your drink and proceed to bring some pistachio nuts and lame cut up fruit on a plate along with your drink to your table. The girls will be dancing on the stage. If you see anyone you like, tell the host and he will bring the girl over from the stage and you will conduct your business with her.
I finally saw the girl I like so I quickly asked her over before she was taken by other patrons. She asked for $ 200 US for 2 hours and I tried to bargain but she was playful but adamant with her price. I didn't want to waste anymore time so I agreed and asked for the check. The check arrived but this time it's 80 Lira! It looks to me that the host is making up the number of the bill as he goes, seeing that I am a foreigner. I asked for explanation , he act upset and walked away. I didn't want to waste anymore time at that bar so I paid the bill plus 5 Lira tip to the dickhead and left. I must add that the waiters in that place were annoying and shameless!
They kept coming to my table and ask for tip even when the did absolutely nothing! This goes back to the earlier explanation on how the visitors will be treated like a walking money dispenser machine!
They are like those annoying flies hovering around your food when you are eating. Back to the girl, now at the coat check counter, the bouncer ask for the fee for handing over the girls coat, this time they asked for 10 Lira, instead of 20 Lira like last week. This goes to show that these guys are making up numbers as they go. You will then proceed to take a taxi from in front of the club to the hotel of the girl's choosing.
Usually, the taxi short ride is 5 Lira around Aksaray area and they don't bother to turn on the meter. This time around though, this fat fuck of a driver have the balls to ask for 10 Lira for that short drive. I want to argue but since the meter was off, they can charge anything they want if you didn't negotiate the rate ahead of time.
The hotel charge this time around is 70 Lira. By the way, you need to bring your passport with you if you want to go to the hotel with the girl and leave the passport with the hotel clerk when you go and do your business.
If you don't have passport, you can't get to the room with the girl.
I guess this is to prevent you from skipping or causing trouble with the girl. I am very wary about leaving my passport for fear of what they can do with it.
US passport is like a gold commodity in the Turkey black market, if you are not aware of that fact yet. Overall that night, I spent roughly the same amount as the previous experience the week before. This time though, I had a hottie who look like a supermodel for a couple of hours who is amazing in bed.
The moral of this posting is:
If you go to Bacardi Bar, first off, ask for the menu price, ask for all the prices of items your want order before you order them; and when the bill come and it's over priced by 400%, demand explanation from the host.
If you are going to do this, know in your head that you will be milked out your hard earned money anyway they can and it's up to you to minimize the damaged using your intelligent against their well honed tricks.
Once that ground rule is established in your mind, you can start to relax and enjoy the ride. Hopefully not get taken for a ride too far off.
It's time to be proactive and not fall victim as the stereotypical dumb rich tourist from the west who is ripe for the milking! For my money, I would go to London and spend less on the same quality girls with less legworks and not being put off by the greedy people in the system.
One last thing, do not speak to anyone on the streets of Istanbul who call you or try to speak to you. Nothing good will come from answering their call or inquiries!
Avoid Grand Bazaar with it's overinflated prized items and opt for smaller shops elsewhere if you want to shop in Istanbul and not getting taken for a ride and regret it on your way home.
