Former Cypriot policeman jailed for prostitution offenses
A former policeman in Cyprus has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for running a brothel in his apartment and pimping.
The Cyprus Mail reported Tuesday that xxxx, a 28-year-old former special constable, plead guilty for seven charges of prostitution offenses along with his accomplice during Monday's hearing.
Cypriot crime investigators raided earlier this year xxxx's apartment in Strovolos, a small town near the capital of Nicosia, found him in sexual act with another man, his accomplice, and a Moldovan woman.
Officers soon discovered astonishingly that the defendant was none other that a colleague at the Nicosia police headquarters. xxxx confessed later that he had rented a room to two illicit prostitutes and earned money from them as well.
"The seriousness of the crime," said the judge, "does not allow the court to impose a punishment other than imprisonment for the defendants."

I was in Cyprus Summer of 2006, visiting from NYC. I went out with some family friends and they took me to a place called Silk and Velvet. It is on the Main Beach road in the tourist district Yermasoyia. The place was nice inside. The girls barely dance (no striping, no getting nude). Silk and Velvet and other places have their own hotels that are placed on the back roads from the Main beach road. Silk and Velvet hotel (forgot what it was called, but they even had professional cards made up with the address and pics of the rooms) was very nice. 15 or 21 Cyprus pounds ($40 American) for the room as long as you want for a day. The girl is drop off at the hotel and you go upstairs to the room to have fun. It's funny, I even saw the head manager guy from the night before... stop by the hotel and go behind the counter. All of the girls at Silk & Velvet are Eastern European and have some sort of college education and are great to talk to after. I really stress how nice this place was because my family friends wanted to show me the other side of how shitty a cabaret could be. So they took me to Mirage (there are two Mirages, one called Mirage the other, Mirage downtown). Very nice looking outside, and dark with black lights on the inside. Some girls look and act like they been coke out, but not all are. Girls come right up to you and ask if you want to fuck, for $30 cyprus pounds (they try to get more later). They take you to a small literally a broom or storage closet with a bare bulb and try to get you off quick with their hand or mouth. PS. Any reports about �Managers� who charge like $200 American dollars in drinks for the girls are probably true, never happen to me. I've read the review "you are being ripped off". I live here and know most of the cabaret clubs. The correct rate is CY£40 for the cabaret, i.e. 4 drinks for the girl, your drinks are free. And CY£30 pounds for the girl.
It's best to make arrangements with the barman as soon as you go in and ask for a girl who is free for the night. There's no point in hanging about. Just pay the £40 and return 5 minutes before closing time to pick the girl. You have sex in the night and then drive her back in the morning. You can also have a girl for the afternoon, 3-4 hours by going to where they live.

If you are a tourist or expatriate, expect to be charged more. But if you know the normal rate you can negoatiate with the barman a reasonable rate. In fact, one of the requirements for the entertainment visa for cabaret dancers, which is what these girls use to come to Cyprus, is to have an HIV test. Police were on some kind of vice kick again, detaining five people over the weekend with a heavy emphasis on arresting foreigners, just like previous instances. Three Chinese nationals arrested in Nicosia on a tip, one male and two female. Sex negotiated by the undercover officer for 30 pounds, and 20 pounds, respectively. 280 pounds seized in the raid, plus condoms and stimulants. A phone book was seized at the scene. In the second instance, police raided a flat on Ayion Anargyron Street where they arrested a 20 year old Latvian woman and found half a gram of marijuana. The woman admitted that she worked as a masseuse but also offered sex for a fee to clients brought by a 52-year-old man from Aradhippou.
