250 officers storm four city brothels--early January, 2006.
DETECTIVES have raided four suspected brothels in Cambridge in a bid to smash the city's illegal sex trade.

Searches were also being carried out on homes in Milton, Willingham, Royston, and a business in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Families living near the city's red light district have given their support to a zero tolerance campaign against kerb crawlers and prostitutes.
As the Government gets set to reveal its prostitution strategy, families welcomed moves to target parts of the city affected by the crime.
Norfolk police are expected to be told by the Home Office that they must make more use of their powers to come down hard on kerb crawlers.
Home Office minister Fiona Mactaggart said: "I'm not tolerant of the view that prostitution is the oldest profession in the world and there's nothing you can do to reduce it.
"Prostitution [blah blah blah].
"Men who choose to use prostitutes are [blah blah blah]."
The crackdown will encourage police to make more use of existing powers to confiscate driving licences of known kerb crawlers.
Forces will also be expected to set up safe houses and other schemes to help women get out of the trade.
Greater efforts will be made to close brothels masquerading as massage parlours and saunas.
The strategy will be published next month, ministers are expected to rule out an overhaul of the 50-year-old prostitution laws and plans for tolerance zones floated by former Home Secretary David Blunkett 18 months ago.
A 75-year-old woman who lives in Sherbourne Place, off Rouen Road, said the situation had got better over the years but said she would welcome anything that would improve the situation.
A 73-year-man who also lives in Sherbourne Place, said he would "certainly support" any crackdown.
"Having said that, you're not going to stop it," he said. "You might well move it on, but you won't stop it."
The man, who did not want to be named, said the situation had improved since he moved there about 12 years ago.
"You couldn't look out of the window without seeing them walk up and down but now if you see one or two that's about it. I must say they've never bothered us — it's the kerb crawlers and that's the problem."
Police today said they were already making strides in tackling the way prostitutes and kerb crawlers were dealt with in the red light district.
In February new protocols were drawn up, in line with recommendations from the Home Office, to allow police to use anti-social behaviour legislation to deal more effectively with prostitutes.
Insp. Brian Pincher, who is spearheading the new approach, said police were no longer "just arresting and charging prostitutes to court" but using Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) to ban them from parts of the city or impose curfews.
He said: "The ABCs outline the behaviour an individual is not allowed to participate in and in some cases will exclude them from certain streets or areas, either completely or at certain times, such as the hours of darkness."
Police have also been targeting kerb crawlers by sending letters home to people caught on CCTV picking up prostitutes.
"The registered keeper is sent a letter outlining that their vehicle has been seen a number of times over a short period of time within the red light district," said Insp. [Peter "Penis"] Pincher.
"It is hoped that by receiving this letter it may be enough to prevent vehicles 'cruising' the red light area."

They can only be fined, so they then go out onto the streets to get money to pay the fine as well as paying for their drug habit. “The real problem with prostitution centres around drug abuse, with crack cocaine the favoured substance. Several of the women are having treatment for drug abuse. He said that there had been a problem with street prostitutes for several years centred around the railway station but recently police had discovered growing evidence that prostitution had moved off the streets and was becoming more prevalent.
Officers raided a brothel late last year after a young Thai woman smuggled out a letter from a house in Bournemouth saying that she was being held against her will. Police found and released three women, aged in their late teens and early 20s, but their abductors remain free. The women told police that they arrived in Britain expecting to work as waitresses, but their passports were taken and they were forced to work as prostitutes.
Since January, a team of 28 police officers has been carrying out surveillance at brothels in the town. This month, they raided three suspected brothels, arresting seven people, including the alleged "madam" and an illegal immigrant, a Thai woman in her 20s.
Police have established that the brothels are each turning over hundreds of thousands of pounds a year. They tend to be run by Britons, both men and women. Although most of the prostitutes are also British, an increasing number of them are foreign. "Our biggest fear is that under-age girls will be brought to Bournemouth to work, and that there will be more women who are being forced into prostitution against their will," said Insp Kelly. "This is happening in London and it is a real horror story. We are taking action now because we don't want to be seen as a soft touch.
"Within our region [the West Country] Bristol has the biggest brothel population and then it's us [Bournemouth]. We have no idea why Bournemouth has this problem, although there is a big night scene here and a large hotel industry which caters increasingly for stag weekends. We also have three premises that provide table dancing, though I don't think this necessarily feeds into the sex industry."
The laws on prostitution are complex. Prostitution itself is legal but most of the trading in sex - whether from a street corner or a brothel - is illegal. Police say that the surge in the vice trade has instigated a crimewave. Several brothels have been subjected to armed robberies by criminals who know that there will be large amounts of cash on the premises.
Drugs are prevalent at many brothels and this has led to a lucrative illegal trade and an increase in the number of drug addicts in the town. The street prostitutes tend to be heavily dependent on heroin and crack cocaine. Unlike most of the prostitutes working for escort agencies, they are often "run" by pimps and boyfriends who are also drug-dependent.
Several prostitutes have been violently attacked by customers. In March, Lomoki Mkwananzi, 29, a prostitute, was found dead in the town's Gordon Road. A man has been charged with her murder.
This end of the sex trade is anything but glamorous. If a prostitute, some of whom sleep rough, is desperate for a fix, she may sell her body for as little as £10. The police have been working with Neighbourhood Management, a Government-funded group, and other community leaders to encourage street prostitutes to embark on drug rehabilitation programmes.
Police are also targeting the customers, the so-called "punters", as well as the street prostitutes, the "working girls". Men seen kerb-crawling are sent warning letters to where the vehicle is registered, which is usually their home or work address. Those arrested are asked to attend a one-day course with a criminal psychologist. More than 300 men have so far attended the course and only three have re-offended.
Residents are angry at what they claim has been the slow reaction of police to the problem of street prostitution. Three years ago, Ray Bright, a hotelier, was so alarmed at the number of prostitutes hanging around near his home that he formed RAP - Residents Against Prostitutes.
Mr Bright and up to 60 other residents began taking the number plates of kerb-crawlers and handing them to the police, which has acted as a deterrent. "Bournemouth is a lovely place to live and visit, but these women are bringing a seedy image to the town," he said.
According to Sally, who has worked as a prostitute for 20 years and moved to the town last year, it is well known within the "industry" that Bournemouth is a centre for the sex trade. Even when the demure former teacher and qualified masseuse lived in the Midlands, she would visit for two days every week to work as a prostitute.
She says that her husband of 20 years, who is disabled and cannot work, knows nothing about how she earns her money and neither do her two teenage children. When she used to go away for two days, she told them she had work as a "silver service waitress"; other so-called inter-city prostitutes tell their families that they are going to work in one of Bournemouth's many care homes.
The attractive 43-year-old jointly runs a "co-operative" for five women aged from as young as 26 from a three-bedroom flat. They charge £30 for a "basic massage" and £60 for a "full personal". Each woman has an average of six customers a day. Their schoolgirl uniform gets used about six times a week and their nurse's uniform almost as regularly.
While the police still cannot explain why Bournemouth has become the vice centre of the South Coast, Sally, who supports the legalisation of brothels, says that she can answer the question. "Girls started coming here about 15 years ago because it was a retirement town and there are a huge number of single men here," she said.
Her oldest customer is 83. Since then there have been other factors, she says. "There is a huge service industry in the town with a large number of hotels and conference centres. There is also a growing amount of construction work, which attracts men from all over. Business is very good." Few expect the vice problem to go away, even if Operation Sail is expanded. It seems that Bournemouth and the world's oldest profession will be unlikely bedfellows for some time to come.

Hi, I know so many reviews have been written about the soho strip clubs but they really are a rip off and dangerous. Basically I paid £5 to get in being told I would see a quick strip show. I bought a drink which cost £10!, then a girl talked to me for about 2 minutes then gave me a bill of £80 saying I had to pay for the drink and the company! I said I didn't have any money but she said she had seen notes in my wallet (when I bought a drink) and that I had £40. I got up to walk out then a big bouncer stood in front of me and told me I had to pay. I gave them the £40 and told them I would go to a cash point for the rest. He took down the details of my student card and said if I came back with the other £40 he would give me back my details. I was heading off to the cash point when I realised all he could do with those details is renew my university libary books! So I didnt go back. My advice to anyone thinking about going to these places - DONT!!!!!!, After reading some other reviews I realise I was lucky to only have lost £40.

Disappointed not to see Derby on the list, a small town with a lot of street action around near city centre. Busiest of the areas are: Backsitwell street, top of Normanton Road, Dale road. Also around showcase cinemas on ring road, quite a lot of young girls and not at all bad looks. Prices from £10 BJ and £15 - £ 25 for ful sex and oral without. Pity most of them come from outside Derby to work so have got no place of their own. No restrictions on numbers of clients per girl as the more the merrier is the case with them. I've enjoyed most of the girls with my friends. A well worth visit. Happy hunting and lots of fun.

Tonight, I decided to head for Clifton Street for some fun. But there were no girls!
Following directions from previous reviews, I parked my car at the Clifton Hill Sports Centre, and walked round to Clifton Road, passed the Globe Inn, and turned left into Clifton Street. I carried on up the street (bit uphill though), but still no one was around!
This was about 9.15pm on a Saturday night (which I thought would be prime time). I realise that a lot of people are on holiday at this time, but surely not everyone?
