A 25-year-old female prostitute in Bergen has won compensation for lost income after a threat on her life left her too scared to work. The woman had filed charges against a 49-year-old man who allegedly had abused and threatened the woman. A court in Bergen found in her favour this week, convicting him of attempted murder, assault and making threats.
The man was sentenced to four years and two months in prison and also was ordered to pay the woman NOK 150,000 (about USD 22,000) in compensation, reports newspaper Bergens Tidende.

The court determined that the woman could have earned as much as NOK 720,000 a year had she been able to continue working as a prostitute. That amount was cut to direct compensation of NOK 50,000 plus expenses for a drug rehabilitation program, since the woman has a narcotics problem.
Her attorney was nonetheless dissatisfied. "First the court rules that my client should be compensated for lost income, but then moralizes over what she should use the money for," complained attorney Aage Mjeldheim.
