I lived in Hungary for a year. Plus I've gone back for many visits. By far, Budapest is a tourist trap. The price for a woman (along with everything else) is extremely over priced. If you want to enjoy Hungarian culture and women, drive east or south.
Kaposvar is a small town in south central Hungary. It's easily accessible by taking the train in Budapest. The Kapos Hotel is the biggest hotel in Kaposvar. The going rate is $40 a night which is very expensive considering Hungarians make around $100 a month. The influx of US military personnel drove the prices up.
However, if you're on a very tight budget, there are cheaper hotels around town. Kaposvar is relatively easy to navigate. I suggest you get a cab. There tons of cab drivers everywhere. They won't rip you off like some cab drivers in other countries.
All around Kaposvar, there are little bars that open around 11PM. Some of them even say Go Go Bar on the sign! During the weekends, they are disco joints. A lot of the locals come to drink and dance. However, during the weekdays, it's a whorehouse.
Go in, order a drink and grab a seat. Mixed drinks will run you roughly 800 forints (1 USD = 283 forints). Soon a woman will come sit next to you. Hungary Moves To Create Official Red-Light Zones
BUDAPEST, Sep 7, 2000 -- (Agence France Presse) Hungary's interior ministry is to designate official red-light zones in the capital Budapest for the city's more than 2,000 prostitutes, an official told AFP Wednesday.
The move follows a vote by parliament to modify legislation on organized crime Tuesday, the deputy head of the legal department of the interior ministry Akos Borai said.
Since 1995, prostitution itself is not a crime in Hungary, "provided prostitutes do not offer their services in a harassing way, keep out of places close to schools and have medical certificates," Borai said.
But police continue to treat prostitutes as criminals, and local authorities have so far refused to set up permanent red light zones to at least restrict the phenomenon to designated areas.
"Now the interior ministry will move," said Borai. "Under the modification, the interior minister can designate the zones in 30 days if the local governments fail to do so," Borai told AFP.
Local governments had a deadline until March this year to create red light zones in areas where prostitution was rife anyway. "But they refused, partly out of out of prudishness, partly out of slyness or political considerations," he said.
Meanwhile, a group of prostitutes announced they will "take land" soon at areas where prostitution was not expressly banned.
