I just got back from my third trip to Costa Rica and as usual left happy and satisfied. In the past I've always stayed at the Hotel Del Rey which is the center of all the action but this time I stayed at the Presidente. It is a girl friendly place although you are only allowed to take one girl at a time. They do not charge you to take the girl to the room but the Del Rey will charge $10 per girl.

Recently the police raided 4 popular massage parlors so some of the girls are now hanging out at places like the Del Rey. The expectation is that they will open again in September. The economy has definitely taken a toll and my buddy and I noticed a significant drop in talent on our recent visit. I've been to Amsterdam, Dominican Republic, Rio, and Cancun and have found Costa Rica to be a wonderful experience.

If Rio was closer it would probably be my number one destination. Spirit Airlines and Taca Airlines offer the best rate options and the El Presidente and Del Rey are the number one choices in accomodations in my humble opinion. The starting price for the girls is still $100 but you can negotiate down depending on the quality of the girl and time of day. I hope this helps everyone.

I noticed that New Fantasy has been closed down by the police. I went to the Hotel del Rey to see what was going on. I took a walk around first and then sat at the bar. There were a few girls that interested me. I saw one 10, but she was obviously taken already.

There are always some nice looking ladies hanging around that will not pressure you and they will play some billiards and actually have a great time and then your room is right there if you want to get some real action (last time I went, me and a buddy played pool for a couple of hours with 2 hot babes that were so laid back --- they were not your typical ladies of the evening).

This place is only a few blocks from the Del Rey and it is in a very nice neighborhood. The rooms are excellent for less money than the Del Rey and last time I was there, they did not charge extra to bring a girl to the room. Management is very friendly ... the owner / operator is a great guy ... for how nice the Sportsmens Lodge is and what they charge, in my opinion, it is the best deal in San Jose.

I just read some of the reviews about Costa Rica, and I thought I'd contribute one of my own from earlier this summer. I spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica on a business trip focused on the issues of CAFTA, the free trade deal Costa Rica just voted on. During that time, I witnessed from government officials and locals an interesting perspective on prostitution. Costa Ricans do not regard prostitution as respectable work, but they support pragmatic efforts regulate it. I was told that unofficial estimates of prostitution and sex-tourism account for the equivalent of 10% of GDP so it's prevalent and accepted, but they don't like to broadcast it. That being said, they have strict standards of appropriate age, and you will be in a world of hurt if you get caught with anyone underage.

They even put big cardboard cutouts of children in the airports with messages to stay away from minors for sex. There's no excuse to fuck up - Costa Rica prides itself on not being like Nicaragua, Colombia, Panama, etc, so don't be hoping for a corrupt cop or lenient sentencing. On to my own experience... Some of my colleagues wanted to gamble, so we asked a local friend to recommend a casino that would be safe and fun for Westerners. He told us about the Hotel del Rey, which not only had a casino, but a bar attached called the Blue Marlin, that was full of San Jose's best "women-for-hire," and was patrolled by the hotel's security to preserve its popularity among "rich" foreigners.

The entrance to the Blue Marlin bar at the Hotel Del Rey is located on a side street away from the main entrance and it faces another large casino. My group of 4 walked in around 9pm, and although the bar is relatively small, it feels large due to the fact it's packed to standing-room-only. There was probably a 10/1 female-male ratio in the bar, but that drops slightly when you move into the attached casino. Being a professional in my mid 20's, I have pretty high standards for women and have never even thought about paying directly for sex. But, when I saw some of the women in that room, I figured, Why not? It isn't even illegal, and at least I know they are tested regularly by the government.

We even got an all niter for $80.00 Always negotiate in Colones, not Dollar. This is Costa Rica my friend not fucking US. Do not pay the girl first. If you do they will rush you and give you very poor service. Show them that you got the money and tell them you will pay them afterward. If they give you shit shows them the door and pick up another one. At the hotel there are always 20-100 girls working. You have the money You are the boss. Have fun and always wear condoms

Just a quick footnote to my last entry regarding Arcardas. It's definitely the "bargain basement" of Costa Rican pussy, but well worth checking out, especially if you're on a tight budget. A word of caution to the wise, however --

The neighborhood around Arcardas is definitely a bit off the beaten track and just a touch on the "dark side" of town, so it's well worth the 1,000 colones (about $2) that a cabbie will charge you from the Del Rey to the front door of the club just to stay safe. And take a taxi from the door of Arcardas back to wherever you're going, don't walk down the street to find one. If there's no taxis waiting there, Navas, the shaved-headed doorman/DJ will find one for you.

While I didn't run into any problems personally, I heard a few reports of occasional robbery/assaults on the dark side streets near this place ... so it's better to be safe than sorry. One other thing ... if you find a girl that you like hanging with, you can't underestimate the value of having a knowledgeable guide in this city. The place is literally like a maze, and very few of the streets are marked with signs. For the $150 or $200 a day that one of these girls will probably want, you'll not only get laid whenever the mood hits you, but they know where to go and how to get you whatever else you might be looking for in this town. And if you're halfway nice to them you'll even get the "locals" prices instead of the inflated rates they try to charge to gringos. Tonight I decided to try to verify the current validity of older reports from last year and I am pleased to report that (and take this from an experienced "hobbyist") Costa Rica is without a doubt the easiest place in the civilized world to get laid by beautiful women.

Your 8,000 colones will include the girl and the room. Just tell any girl who catches your fancy that you'd like to go to a room with her. THAT'S IT!

She'll take you to the bartender, who will collect your 8,000 colones. Upstairs, when she checks into the room, the upstairs bartender will issue towels and a condom to her. Go into the room with her and swing away!
