If you have read the reports relating to Hinodecho in Yokohama, then the area I'm going to tell you about in Machida is very similar. Machida has 2 stations, one on the Odakyu Line, which takes 30 minutes from Tokyo's Shinjuku station, and one on the JR line about 45 minutes from Yokohama.~~~~The stations are only 5 minutes walk apart.
