Didn't see any reports on 'street action' in Guangzhou. Very active site is outside McDonalds near the China Hotel. Lots of women standing around after twilight. Do not under any circumstances visit the Disco at the Great Wall Sheraton in search of women. My friends and i recently visited this establishment and ended up on national T.V. Shanghai, July, 2000~~~~I recently returned from a trip to Beijing and Shanghai and thought I would share some of my observations. Prior to making this trip, I read all the related reports on both these cities and China as a whole. Much of what I read is accurate and I'm sure reflect the authors experiences. Here are my experiences.~~~~I was traveling with a sports team and had relatively little time to go out and explore the town. We stayed at the Olympic Hotel on the southwest end of town next to the Soccer and Basketball Arenas. This is mostly an older section of town with a numb. ~~er of big buildings a short distance away.~~~~Our bus rides to the fields were through mostly urban Shanghai in the northwest region. I didn't see much signs of anything. Only a couple of Sauna/Massage businesses and all the barbershops seemed to be barbering.~~~~Our hotel had a disco but nobody ever shoed up. We were playing 3 games in 3 days and time was short. On the second night, 2 of us did an exploratory trip. First we went to the Hard Rock Cafe. It was early in the evening Thursday, around 9 PM and things were just beginning to happen. This Hard Rock is not nearly as big as the one in Beijing but plenty of girls started arriving. We wanted to check out some of the other places so we went to get a cab after one drink. The owner wanted that money and for me to go to me hotel and get the rest, which I said I would do. He held the girls there and sent an employee with me to my hotel. I got a couple of credit cards and the cash. When we got back, I charged the balance on my Amex card. The owner invited me to stay as long as I wanted and drink as much beer as I wanted. I said no and left with the 2 girls. They didn't want to get into the cab right away and we walked a block. I could tell something was wrong. I finally hailed a cab, I got in first then they started to then tell the driver to drive off and stayed outside. I knew they were trying to ditch me and had no intent of going back with me. I contacted my credit card company and told them I was being overcharged, extorted and had my friends held hostage until I got money. Amex has upheld my claim to not pay the $1800 I was overcharged. This means it cost me about 600 yaun ($75) for a couple of hours with the girls, a couple of beers and some peanuts. ~~~~The next day, I took a ride on a boat down the river. On the walk there, 2 separate gay Chinese guys approached me. Later that night I strolled Nanjing Lu again. This time, I was approached several times by the pimps wanting me to go to bars with lots of young girls. I was also approached by 4 pairs of cute young girls who wanted me to go listen to music with them, they almost all had the same lines of conversation. I talked with them as long as I could before they finally gave up. Seems to me the KTV girls are a scam and I suggest talking to them but don't go with them. ~~~~I know that many of the other reports indicated the Sauna/Massage places are the best place to get laid, I only saw a couple around and did not have time to check out. The barber shops seem like they probably are also a good place though in Shanghai, I only saw ones with barbers. There are plenty of discos around and KFC which I also read are good places. I personally like the higher end possibilities like the Hard Rock Cafe. I'm sure you can get it cheaper in those other places but I like having all the girls there in a casual atmosphere where I can pick and choose or not. I read the pleas about not paying these high prices, I agree, this is a lot of money for a Chinese citizen. It is however, cheaper and better than I can get almost anywhere else. In San Francisco, it cost about $50 for a massage parlor plus $100-$175 tip for the girl and you do it only once with average girls. In Nevada, you can hardly get anything for $100-$150, many want $200. In Tiajuana you can get it for $40-50 plus $10 for a room, again this is only once. It seems to me that paying $100-$200 night for a good looking girl for the whole night is a reasonable price and a lot more fun. I had no regrets.~~~~There appears to be as much action as you want in Shanghai. There are plenty of good looking girls everywhere. I'm sure if you speak Chinese, have the time and can get around, you will have no problem with any of the places. There should be several places but I know of particular one. Its close to Gubei New Area in Hongqiao part of Shanghai. There is a L-shaped street which connects Gubei Road and Hongqiao Road (Opposite ShanghaiMart).
There are few bars and saloons that offer all kinds of sex services. There are chances that when you walk on street the girls will call you from the bar. You buy a drink for yourself and the girl (beer/coffee around RMB 20), pay RMB 50-100 (negotiable) to the boss/MAMASAAN for the room and take the girl to do whatever you like. During a trip to Macao I went to Zuhai. When you first walk into Zuhai its very run down and all but the city sucks you in. Its a curious place with a maze of shops and buildings.

Here is some info on China. First avoid Hotel or Discos. Often full of beautiful girls but not willing to follow you in the room. Most of them will only ask you money for talking or dancing. Also Karaoke (call KTV) often girls only talk and mock you. Tip for girls if only talk and dance 200 - 300 RMB (8RMB=1USD).
If you really wants to have action go to Sauna Massage. This are the real place were to go. Costs you much less that if you bring the girl in Hotel, and can have wonderful massage, shower and relaxing atmosphere.
These Sauna are in every major city. Ask the reception of your hotel. The way they work are pretty much the same: there is a lobby were they inform you about cost of the massage (200RMB hour) and some time also tell you cost of tip (which anyway is not fixed but negotiated with the girl). After you have shower and are leaded to a small massage room were you find the girl (they do not speak English). Let her understand that you want a special massage (taking out your short is a good way or show her some condom) and then negotiate the tip: usually from 500 to 1000 RMB. After you agree, dive into action, you will not regret. If you want something special ask first since it must be included in the tip. Once finished, relax with a massage and, if you want, after you leave the room, in a relax room in front of the TV.
