Started my vacation with my mate and two lads from England stayed in Thailand for five nights then took a flight to Phnom Penh. Bring dollars to pay at the airport to gain access into the country and for spending money as the local currency is a nightmare to convert. Hotels are not the best and you should not pay more than thirty dollars for somewhere decent. There are no were near as many bars as Thailand. In fact not to many but they can be as good Thai bars. Bars are normally 15 dollars short time and 30 dollars for long time.

After two nights getting to know the place and getting our motorbike taxi drivers to show us around I found it to be quiet safe but always be on the look out for trouble. On the third night we decided to hire an old barge boat for 20 dollars an hour and 2 dollars a beer which we agreed with the owner. My two friends took a girl from the bar for the night for 30 dollars. me and my other friend Tony went back to a bar we earlier had a good laugh in. as the lads were waiting for us at a bar with there girls me and Tony decided to take 5 girls each for the night for the crack.

When we arrived at the bar beside the boat it was just madness there was 12 working girls in total and 4 lads. The other two lads said we were mad but it was our last night and we said the hell with it. We had a ball on the boat with girls and beer all over the place. I've just been on a return trip to Cambodia. I first went there in April 2000, and I must say the place has changed a lot. The old bars, like Sharkies and Martini's are still there, but virtually all the brothels and massage parlors have closed down. In the old days, there were lots of young Vietnamese girls in these places, mostly in the 63 Street area, great value usually at about $5 a go. Svay Pa and Toul Kok seem to have disappeared too. I rode out to Svay Pa on my motorbike, but when I got there the streets were deserted. The locals told me that the government had closed the brothels down due to NGO pressure. Mind you, I was approached by a couple of pimps who said they had girls inside.

Unfortunately they only had very young ones, 14 - 15. Not being a pedophile, I naturally turned down their offer. However, it does seem there is still some small scale activity there. In the old days, the girls, almost 100% Vietnamese, would come out and swamp you, and grab your keys, so you had to go in. Toul Kok was never really worth visiting anyway, but I couldn't even find it this time around. There seems to have been a lot of development there, and it looks like it's been tarmacked over. Anyway, some of the girls in Martini's are still pretty nice, but not as good I remember from 2000. Less than $20 short-time is difficult to get and $40 long-time is normal. I ended up taking a local Khmer girl.

There are now also lots of Thai style bars, like Golden Vine, etc, trying to be more up market with bar fines, etc. Of course, you end up paying a lot more that way. Freelancers are always the best in my experience. Generally, I'd say Cambodia is no longer a prime destination. Better to stick to Thailand. In fact, Pattaya can work out cheaper - and better! or try Vietnam down the road.

This is my fist time in Phnom Penh (PP) and Seam Reap (SR). You can find Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese girls here. You can take them back to your hotels for US$50 a night. But the hotel in Seam Reap will charge you extra US$20 as security fees. The girls here are generally shy and will piss you off most of the time. Both my experience in PP and SR were bad. I went to a sex parlor in SR and paid US$50 for 1.5 hour. The girl led me to a room and locked the door.

Just spent a delightful few days in Phnom Penh, my first time there. Previously I'd written reviews about Jakarta, which has been my favorite Asian city for nightlife. However now I think Phnom Penh is also a strong contender. The previous writer gave a great review of Phnom Penh, which was extremely helpful in planning my trip. I'll just add my two cents here.

Phnom Penh Airport is surprisingly modern and efficient. A one-month tourist visa (renewable once) is $20. A one-month business visa can also be obtained for $25, and it is renewable indefinitely. Obviously that would be the choice for those planning to stay in-country several months. Upon departure, the airport tax is now $25. A taxi from the airport to anywhere in Phnom Penh is $7, and a moto (motorbike taxi) is $2. I took moto's everywhere in Phnom Penh, including to the airport on my way back to Bangkok. However I'll admit to considering what it might be like to be banged up in a moto accident in a country with almost no emergency-response services or international-standard medical facilities.

Cambodia's currency, the Riel, trades at about R4000 = US $1. US Dollars are used for transactions of $1 or more, and Riels are used if the amount is less than $1. US $ traveler's checks can be cashed at numerous currency exchange booths for a fee of about 1.5%.

Another good place to stay is Hotel California 2 on the river. I had a large, comfortable, a/c room with large bed and private bath for $15/night. Jim, the American owner, is a good source of local fun. The food is good in the downstairs restaurant, and the Baja Fish Tacos are downright addictive. Pick up a free copy of Phnom Penh Visitor's Guide in the lobby. I found it more useful than Bayon, which was mentioned by the previous reviewer. There's a similar guide to Siem Reap/Ankor Wat if you're heading there.

The first night I had great fun and a good lay ($10 for boom-boom or yum-yum, upstairs room included in the price) at DV8 just off the riverfront road. DV8 is a small, friendly place with a pool table upstairs. However after the first night, I was disappointed in the small number of girls who came there. Apparently most or all of the girls work for the establishment and are not free-lancers.

The next night I found a gorgeous 21-year old beauty with a flawless body and face at Le Cyrcee Club, a much smaller place that quickly gets crowded. Although I locked onto my selection quickly, it looked like there was plenty of talent there. Also $10 for short-time including the upstairs room.

The following night, after returning to DV8 and finding it largely empty, I headed for Sophie Club. As the previous writer said, this is a pretty outrageous place and lots of fun. I came to Sophie's a bit early and was immediately attacked by four cute, friendly girls who pulled down my pants and took turns giving me a blow job at the bar while I tried vainly to carry on a conversation with the friendly older ladies who run the place. While waiting their turns to minister to my eager member, the girls were more than happy to be frisked and fingered. Finally I chose two of the girls for yum-yum in one of the three private rooms ($20 for two girls).

Twice I visited the famous Martini's and twice I was quite disappointed. After reading the previous reviews I expected great things from Martini's. However I didn't care for the vibes there, and left both times for greener pastures. Also I tried Sharkey's. It's ok but they don't have private rooms, so you have to take the girl to your hotel or find a short-time hotel. That's fine if you want to, but I found the places with private rooms were much more convenient for short-time fun. Taking an unknown girl home for the night seems a bit dicey to me. Phnom Penh is loaded with brothels, mostly catering to local men and not overly welcoming to foreigners.

One day my moto driver took me on a circular tour of the city and showed me many brothels along the main streets. I couldn't see any advantage to trying those places, since the price is going to be the same $10 for short-time, or else they will try to charge you more because you aren't a local. Also the brothels are often in unhygenic shacks or other suspicious environments that may not be safe or comfortable, and English is rarely spoken.

One morning my moto guy and I visited a place I'd heard of called Sony Guest House, on Street 154 just west of Monivong. The foreigner-oriented pubs like DV8 are evening places, and I was hoping to find a nice, comfortable, friendly brothel for morning or afternoon action. Unfortunately I didn't find it, although my search was hardly exhaustive. The Sony Guest House girls were not very friendly, and they asked for $20/hour for one girl, twice the going rate throughout Phnom Penh. Not caring for the ambience, we left without bothering to negotiate. Besides brothels, pubs, etc., at night you can find groups of girls standing on the street looking for business, in the vicinity of the Independence Monument and in the general area of the Olympic Stadium and Intercontinental Hotel. We stopped to talk with some of these girls, but again I saw no point to doing business with them. Essentially none of the brothel/street girls speak English, while most pub girls or their colleagues do speak English.

Regarding safety in Phnom Penh, I walked by myself through dark streets at night and never felt threatened in any way. However I heard troubling stories (told by locals) of violent criminal elements who would not hesitate to go after foreigners. It's probably best to patronize the foreigner-oriented establishments and leave the street and brothel action to the locals. Have a great trip! Be good to the girls, make them laugh and have some fun -- life isn't easy for them in this part of the world.

This is an update of the previous trip I made in March 2004. Phnom Penh is still a great place to get laid. There has been virtually no economic growth or inflation in the country for the past 10 years and prices have remained the same. You don't even have to negotiate with the girls, give them $10 for a short time or $20 for all night. Some may snarl at you but they are nearly always the ones who are no good in bed anyway.

In bars with a barfine system, count on $5 to take them off the premises. The best places for girls with rooms on the premises are still Cyrcee Club, Mikado, and Sophie Club in that order. The French owners of Cyrcee and Sophie are currently in prison but their bars (no pun) are still functioning normally. DV8 has changed its format away from a sex bar to a drinking bar but there are still 4 or 5 girls who will go with customers upstairs (additional $5 for use of room). The waitresses wear white tops and don't go with customers as a rule. There are other places too but I didn't check them out.

The Viper A Go-Go has closed down and was crap anyway. For freelancers, Martini has changed location twice since March 2004 but is still far and away the best place. Other bars with freelancers are Sharky and Walkabout, which is open 24 hours. The famous Heart of Darkness rarely gets going before midnight and there are plenty of girls there too including foreign tourists who are sometimes up for it. For hostess bars, Rose, Zanzibar, and Shanghai have some nice girls, 18 to 30 usually. Temple Bar also has girls who sit outside at night and ask to come indoors for a drink with you, as does Dingo Bar and many other locations. You can't go wrong. Just be nice.

I am Cambodian and can speak the language. That is how I found these places. Here is a report of all the escorts and brothels by streets and price ranges that I visited (obviously there are more than the ones I visited):

A. High End Escort Service (These places run out of girls by 12:00 midnight, except Casa which is open until 3:00 a.m. and Holiday International Manhattan Club)

1. Casa Hotel Night Club and Restaurant No. 5 France Street 47 Near What Phnom Girls arrive at 8:00 pm, all independent escorts with one madameson Vietnamese $67 a night ($50 if you rent a karoke room) Chinese $150 a night Cambodians $67 a night (no negotiation on the prices) Karoke room is $8 all night, girl is $7 plus tip of at least $10. What you do is between each other, no sex in the room. You can take her home for $50.

2. Club 99 No. 10 Street 252 Girls arrive at 8:00 p.m. Cambodians girls Vietnamese girls One mademason $70 a night (negotiated down to $60 a night)

3. Holiday International Manhattan Club Street 84, off Monivong Girls do not arrive until late at 1:00 a.m. Vietnamese and Cambodian They dance on the disco floor. Tell the waiter you want to speak to the mademason. Tell her who you want. $50 a night (I did not negotiate)

4. XO Club, No. 85 A, Street 163 By far the best looking girls, Vietnamese and Cambodian. This is NOT an escort service. The rooms are $8 an up a night. The girls are free but expect a tip. You sing karoke and hug them. They make money off the food and drinks. The girls drink what you buy them. Many married women work here to make ends meet. The girls and beer girls will go home with you if they like you. There is no pressure to go home with you. If you want a girl right away, ask to see the madameson. Girls are $70 to $100 a night.

B. Middle range escort services.

1. The Cambodian brothels are all located near the Lucky Star Hotel No 14 Street 336. At night, the brothel owners rent space at the hair salons. When you drive by, the pimps will call you in. The brothels are open during the day as well. You have to knock on the doors. The girls are all Cambodian. Prices are $10 to $25.

There are also girls that stand in groups of threes on the street corners nearby.

2. The Vietnamese brothels (there are four of them) are all located on Street 63 Sangkat Phsar Thmei Ti 3. No. 40 is a brothel. During the day it is a haircut shop. Knock on the door during the day. The girls are $30 a night. You can negotiate. I chose not to negotiated.

The girls at the brothels work harder to please you than the independents at Casa, XO, and Club 99 because the pimps actually beat them up if you complain. The girls at Casa, XO, and Club 99 do not have pimps or owe money.

I NEVER said that the girls were ugly or fat. No fat people in Cambodia because they are all malnourished. I said that I was AFRAID to pick them up because they looked sickly, old, and repulsive, I was afraid of catching AIDS. I knew that the local Cambodians did not have the money to pay for the girls at XO and Casa and that my risk of AIDS were lower with the high end escorts. That is why I chose the high end escorts.

I never said that these girls were not pretty. There are some. But I am just leery of 100 girls all standing around for $10 a piece, some of whom looked repuslive. It was just unprofessional. I feel more comfortable going through an agency or middleman.

I am also Asian so not everyone looks exotic to me. I was really turned off by the girls at the Martini's. They looked old and very short in stature. I saw one Eastern European fat girl. They all approached me. I just said I was waiting for a friend and haven't decided yet. This was the ONLY time I ever saw any white guys, except along the Mautalay.

I do not know where to place U2. They charge $50-100 a night but the girls look like the $10-25 a night. On my last night, they offered to let me sleep with a television personality for $200 but I did not have enough cash on me.

E. Moto taxis All the moto taxis have their own connections. I found one girl who worked as an escort on the side through a moto driver. I paid $100 for the whole day and night. No negotiation.

F. Heng Ly and the restaurants across the Japanese Cambodian friendship bridge There are beer girls here at night but you have to wait until they get off work at 1:00 a.m. I didn't feel like waiting.

Some of you will call me stupid. But I was looking for quality. Many of you who call me stupid never post any addresses or prices. You post the same thing over and over again: Martinis, K11.

I share my information freely with you because I know that Americans tend to be more civilized than the locals. Some of the girls told me stories about showing up at a hotel room and finding 3 Cambodian guys and getting gangraped.

At night the rich kids called "Steives" ride in groups of 4 on their moto bikes and kidnap and rape ordinary girls off the street. Their parents get them out of jail through bribery. I did not experience any problems with the law, so I do not know what your concerns are if your intent is good clean consenusal adult fun.
