Can anyone recommend a good tailor? I am willing to pay a little extra in order to get a well made suit. My research has shown that there are a lot of scams and shoddy tailors out there. Any help would be appreciated.

I got about 6 suits made at Harry's. It's on the walking street on the left hand side. He has a website on the receipt I have but I've never really looked at it.

I went one day and they measured me and I got one made. I liked it so I stopped by a few more times while I was there and pointed out a style in one of the many magazines that they had. They usually have GQ, Hugo Boss, Bachrach and others on hand. I was able to pick them up one day after ordering. I haven't had any problems out of them yet. Just make sure to ask for double stitching.

I got a couple of suits made by a tailor whose establishment was right on the exit foyer of the Ambassador. Delivered them in 6 hours to the hotel room - however I may add the quality of the fabrics were not upto the mark. They went 'limp' within a year. I would stick to the ready made brands anyday.

Thanks for the information guys. I would like to stay with name brands but lifting weights has made that impossible. That is why I am interested in a reputable tailor. Someone that does not try to rush the completion of the suit and knows how to take measurements. I am willing to fork out the extra money for the better fabric and a better fit.
I have researched tailors in Pattaya but have been unable to find any reliable testimonials. Right now I am thinking of the following:
Giovani Collection
Classic Tailor
Any comments?

"Name Brands" in Thailand, Come on youre taking the piss surely ?
Sorry but in over 30 years of travelling to Thailand I still havent found anyone that can make a suit that will last more than a month or two.
The quality is crap, the stitching is crap. However, strangeley enough I have had lots of shirts made that DO last a long time ?
Curious

he's right. the quality is crap. definitely not the best, but for as cheap as they are they'll do for a little while. i haven't had any problems out of mine, but then again i've only used them 1 time each. if you wear them a lot and get them dry clean a lot of times you can expect some damage. a friend that went with me and got some made the same time i did from the same place told me that he had problems after 1 dry cleaning.
you get what you pay for. keep negotiating for the lowest price possible. good luck.

I knew it was too good to be true. Oh well. Would you guys say that it would be safe having them make me shirts? Or is that a hit or miss proposition as well?

Crackpott,
Could you recomend a place to get shirts made?
If you can make a trip into Bangkok, there is a world class tailor located on Sukhumvit between the Landmark Hotel & the Majestic Suites (Rajawongese Tailor Shop). His customers have ranged from presidents, prime ministers and other dignitaries. His blazers start at $250. He needs about 5 days to make a custom fit suit. Hope this helps...![]()

Bangkok has too many tailors that cant produce a suit better than what you can get from Walmart !! Around the Soi 3 -11 are the worst. The Pockets and linings etc are terrible.
Always have a shirt made and check the quality. And then ask to see some finished suits . I reccon that unless you go inti the $400+ zone you will get rubbish.. Also they laugh like mad about us..... The Indian guys just think we are stupid.
BUT there is a tailor men/Ladies. Its on the "Even numbers" side of the Suk down around 16-22. Very European styled shop. Guy wears Oakey framed glasses. The quality of this shop is Fantastic. Will be getting some clothes from him next week.
Cant remember the name !

Italy is the place you want to go for the better suits. Or even try the garment district in New York. Los Angeles does not really have the custom suit places that you will find in the big apple. Italy is where a lot of the best suits are made (Armani and Zeyna (sic)). I have to agree with the boys. The jacket I had made from a reputable taylor did not last. They tend to look good, but the sticking and craftsmanship are not up to par. If you are in Asia for some time, forget Pattaya and go directly to Hong Kong for a few days. Their tailors are great. The suits are more expensive but they last and the quality is much higher than Thailand. You can play wih the girls there too while you wait. IMHO, Hong Kong adn Italy are your best bets for best hand made custom suits.
Italy... Your joking!! Most if not all suits sold in Italy are made in either Turkey or Egypt. That includes Armani etc. Unless you buy bespoke. Bulgaria etc are now coming into the business big time. This will cause Turkey to have big problems in the Textiles business. Italy has major problems. Most of its bathroom/ kitchen design stuff has losted out to China etc. very little is produced IN italy And all that "Designed in Italy " crap is rubbish..
Hong Kong isnt much better.... There are some good guys. But the rest rob the tourists.

Most of the big places will make up half decent shirts, but, like before check the stitching on the seams etc.
It seem that they dont finish the stitching off and it comes undone easily

I had a couple of suits made right across from the Big C in Pattaya by a guy named Bobby. My buddy had six made and they are still doing very well. The prices were great and he still stays in contact with us........I would recomend.

Thanks guys for all the help. Maybe I should hire a tailor to go with me and check out the final product. Then I would at least have some idea if the damn stuff was made right. I know there has to be at least one good tailor in Pattaya but it is finding him that is going to be the problem.
Thanks again
