Cost To Live in China

I was wondering if anyone knows what the cost of living (apt,food,clothes,etc) is in China per month.

I saw a PBS program that said auto workers are highly paid and make a 1000 (Chinese currency) per month.
But 1000 (Chinese currency) in dollars is only $125.I can't believe you can live like a middle-upper class person in China for only $125 per month.

I've read that the average income for a Chinese living in an urban place, Beijing, Shanghai, etc. is about 8000 rmb per month. Country incomes are much lower. When I was last in Beijing I paid a massage girl 3000 rmb to spend three nights with me. Hard to believe she made almost half a monthly average wage in only three nights. It was worth it to me though, she was a real GFE if not a stellar performer. She even took me to lunch the day I flew home.

I will travel to Beijing next month. I want to know where i can find some Massage Parlors. Are the hotels allow girls inside?. I was in Beijing last year, the hotel no allow girls inside.

osiris1; Stay in a differant hotel. You can find willing girls just about anywhere in Beijing...prices of SW's vary but action at 300 to 500 yuan is the going rate...I suggest the Holiday Inn as alternate hotel. It is clean and the hotel massage girls are good...FS is higher than on the street but if your limited for time it's worth the extra cash.

I live since seven years in Shanghai and know that the upper middle class can be defined as earning 8000 Rmb (Chinese currency) per month which is approximately 1000 USD. The average salary in Shanghai is about 2000 Rmb.

I travel to China frequently and have recently rented an apartment in Qingdao. Cost of living varies by city, with Beijing and Shanghai being the most expensive. The 8,000 RMB figure for these cities is about right. I know a female lawyer in Beijing whose salary is 8,000 per month. But there is a lot of variance by city.

But back to Qingdao. A fairly good salary there may be 5,000 per month. I know a lot of professional people who make 2,500 or 3,000. I rented a two bedroom apartment, furnished for 28,000 RMB per year. It is quite nice, on the first floor (you pay a premium) of the apartment complex. Of course, I had to have a Chinese employee negotiate the price or it would have been at least 50% higher as I am a lao wei.

While in Chengdu recently I was amazed at how cheap things were there. It seems to be a great place to live, and the women are very beautiful, in my opinion.
