    Lightbulb Hotel Recommendations

There have been a lot of posts about hotels, what is girl friendly, cheap, quiet, etc. We should start a thread with only Hotel Recommendations, that way they are all in one place, and don't clutter other boards.

I've stayed at the Sunshine Hotel on Soi 8 and the Sabai Lodge on Soi 2. Both were girl friendly and though not the cheapest gave good value as far as pools, food, internet, hot water and the rooms were pretty clean also. While the Sunshine Hotel has the safe at front desk , The Sabai Lodge has safes in some if not all there rooms.

    bungalow option

I had a great time at the hotel I stayed at on my last trip. I can't remember the name of the place but I am sure that some of the other members will know the name of the name and can help out. I am so sorry I can't remember the name, I thought I had it in my records but I don't. I am sure someone can help you. Or it is VERY easy to find from the description that follows (and in any other time than peak you should have no trouble walking up with no reser

Anyway, this place was way up north beyond the dolphin fountain. You take the Bhot bus north up to the beer bars along the north road. The hotel I am talking about was back behind a HUGE HUGE disco that had huge neon palm trees in front of the building along the main road.

To get to the hotel walk in the drive past the neon palm trees. The building just past the disco is the hotel regestration. They have regular hotel rooms in that main building, but the best thing is that they also have private bungalos set in a heavily forested garden area.

These bungilos were the same price as the average hotel downtown with the action, but had lots of advantages as far as I was concerned. First since they are private bungilows you have lots more privacy and no noise what so ever from anybody becide you. Second, they are very roomy. Third because they are bungilows they are all on ground level and have a nice little porch out front of the unit that you can sit out and enjoy the rain (and boy did it rain one day I was there).

The complex also has a very nice pool that is in the middle of the bungilows (the pool is girl friendly, but there are lots of families staying here so probably best to not have a diffeent girl with you every day in the pool). The rate includes a full breakfast every morning at this very nice outdoor covered bar/resturaunt area. The breakfast was very good and served from something like 7am to 10am.

Another good feature is that the complex is very girl friendly but also has a good security patrol. At night they have a security guard stationed at the main walk that leads to the bungalows. When you walk by you must show him your room key and your guest (girl) must give him her id. There is no additional charge for an over night guest, but they keep the id until morning and give it back to her at the front desk. If she tries to retrieve it without you with her the desk will call your room and ask if they may give her her id back. I personally felt this was a wonderful security feature to keep the girls from attempting to steal things and sneak out (very few would do this, but it is nice to have this as a way to keep it from happening).

I know some guys really like staying in the heart of the action. But I personally loved this setting. It was quit, it was more like a garden setting than the hotels down in town. And it was only 5 or 10 minutes more by Bhot Bus (I think it cost an additional 20 B to ride that far).

Like I said I wish I could remember the name of the hotel, but I can't.

I have attached pictures of the room, the complex, and the bungalows.

agree with PoonHunter, should all share hotel info on 1 thread and also might add that please list hotels and Prices paid so have a range of prices for us to decide on our own budget.

I stayed last weekend in the Sabai Inn - accross the road from Sabai Lodge. The rate for standard room was BHT1050. Rooms were ok, nothing special and the shower had very low pressure. You get what you pay for.

    BTW, girl friendly.

I have stayed at both the Sabai Inn and the Sabai Lodge which are in effect the same hotel I believe. The prices were similar but I must say the room was better at the Sabai Inn. In fact it was great. The draw back was that the Sabai Inn does not have a pool and you had to go across the road to the Sabai lodge for a swim. This was a small inconvenience. Staff were fantastic and both places were girl freindly.

I'm going again in May but I would like to stay somewhere that has a gym. For around 1000-1300bht, freindly atmosphere and female visitor welcome. I think there is one on 2nd Rd but I don't kmow what it's name is.

If some one could recommend one I would be extremely greatful.

Great to see that this forum is off to a great start!

I agree with normando. Sunshine hotel on soi 8 is a great hotel. It can get a little loud (like every other hotel). As I recall, it was only about $20. It is worth it because the room had all new sheets, window shades, etc. It was cozy, girl friendly, internet near lobby, and resturaunt.

I was interested in the entry by knotsure. I've stayed in Pattaya many times, but always in hotels, usually of the cheaper variety 400 - 600 baht. No complaints, I always found they offered good value for money and there was never a charge for taking a friend back as I've heard happens in some of the more expensive hotel. I've always thought that as long as the room is clean, relatively quiet has a freezer, aircon, shower, cable TV and of course a double bed there's not much more I really need.

However, I also thought about renting a bungalow or an apartment as it could offer a bit more privacy and the one that knotsure stayed in sounds great. I wouldn 't particularly be bothered if families saw me with a different girl everynight. After all that's why I pay my money to go to Thailand.

One of the problems I forsee though is that most of these kinds of places only seem to be available for a month. I can only stay in Pattaya for two weeks at a time. I've heard that some may be willing to rent for two weeks, but I don't personally know of any.

Has any reader got any info on bungalows of apartments for rent in Pattaya. I wouldn't mind too much staying a little bit out of town for a change. Any information on where I could rent such a place, price and the kind of thing I could expect would be welcome. I've been visiting Pattaya for 16 years now and could do with a bit of a change.

    Value hotels

Close to the action the hotels I like are the flipper lodge, the sunshine and the Queen Pattaya. All are girl friendly and don't charge extra for "guests"
The Sunbeam on the other hand, a favourite with package deal companies charges 300 baht for a guest and actively persues you for the money.

On second road the Apex is good value too. Especialy now the new made in Thailand bar complex is open. You can stagger back to your room with your Tilac with no fear of getting run over!

    sunshine hotels?

Hmm, which Sunshine hotel is everyone referring to? I looked at internet site and found 4 in Pattaya.
    1)Sunshine hotel--soi 8
    2)Sunshine and Residence hotel--also on soi 8?
    3)Sunshine Vista hotel
    4)Sunshine Garden hotel

Also, a question on whether the safe at the front desk is safe to use( if hotel dont have safes in the rooms ), Ive been hearing conflicting reports that its not always safe since someone besides yourself always have access to your cash and valuables.

    Steve:
Glad my post was of help to you. I am so sorry that I can't remember the name of this place that I posted the info on. I can tell you that it wasn't a whole lot more expensive than the middle of the road places down in the middle of town. If I had to guess I would say at most 20% more than Flipper or the others of that sort. I personally think it is well worth the additional few B to have a nice place.

And as for the place being long term only. I rented it for just short of two weeks and they didn't give me any hassle at all. I am fairly sure you could rent the place by the night. I will say that I was there in low season, so in high season they may be a bit more picky in trying to get long term guests.

I have posted one more additional picture that is of the area just out front of the hotel. Actually it is of a parade that was going by while I was there (the Queen's birthday I think). Anyway, astute members may be able to recognize some of the businesses across the street and help pen down the address.

One more bonus that I found about this place was the neighborhood. There were several small inexpensive resturaunts in the area and a very cheap internet cafe right around the corner, plus a great laundry was close by as well. I found that all of these places offered great services at prices less than many places downtown.

Generally I like places that have room safes. However, in many cases hotels only have safes in the lobby or a room off the lobby. In either case I have never had any difficulties.

However, in addition to the safe I use a locking money bag. Many years ago I purchased the locking cash bag (you know the kind that you see businesses using when they have money they are taking to the bank) and have used it on several trips. I have seen them recently at for about $25 US. When ever I am placing my money in either the room safe or the safes in the lobby (or off the lobby) I always first place it in the locking bag and then place the bag in the safe. That way even if somebody has access to the safe becides me they aren't gonna be able to get into my stuff without cutting the bag open.

In addition to being very helpful to provide additional protection in the safe It also comes in real handy to lock things in while flying. ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT LOCK THINGS IN A CHECKED BAG. I was told by security personel at the airport that if screeners found something like that locked in a checked suit case they would be likly to cut it open. So I keep the locking back in my carry on stuff I think this provides just one more level of security while in fight.

Has anyone stayed at the Areca Lodge?
It has all the facilities I want but is it girl friendly? As I have previuosly posted I have stayed at the Sabai Lodge and the Sabai Inn and thought they were great but I'm looking for a girl friendly place that has a gym. Any advice?
