Long posts coming…. Sorry for any inconvenience caused!
Any time I am able to spend in the Kingdom, is better than not being there at all… and so it was that I was able to manage a 3 night stay last week in Bangkok whilst returning to Australia from Germany. It had been 15 months since my last visit, so it felt very overdue… and highly anticipated!
I boarded the Lufthansa flight out of Frankfurt and thanks to a quicker than usual flight time would be in Suvarnabhumi in just 9.5 hours… but, that was the only bright point… I became ill on the flight about an hour after the meal service… thankfully, I was in the back row of the plane and in an aisle seat with no-one next to me, because 5 trips to the on-board facilities ensued before touch-down!
Day 1. Wednesday 7th March
I arrived into Suvarnabhumi feeling completely exhausted due to my numerous sprints to the toilets which caused a very sleepless and uncomfortable night – and I felt near collapse whilst waiting to pass through passport control… is it my imagination, or is that whole process getting worse? It took 45 minutes to get through and I quickly grabbed my bag from the carousel, down to level 1 for a meter taxi and off to the hotel… all I could think about was getting to the hotel and lying down for a while, so I could rejuvenate before hitting the bars.
I get to my hotel… Town Lodge in Soi 18… first time I have stayed here and only did so, because of the 800bt per night price for a standard room via Stickman’s site/promo… usual rate of 1200bt per night… 800 seemed about right, I mean it is neat enough, but that’s about it – very basic, no lift (my room on 4th floor)… plus it’s a good 10 minute hike to Sukhumvit, although the walk is pleasant enough, despite the recent stifling heat.
Quick check-in at the hotel and I am in my rather small room by 4pm… quick shower and time for a rest… shit, I woke up 3.30am…. fucking missed my whole first night… damn Lufthansa and their dodgy chicken red curry… although, it probably was a good thing as my backdoor was still feeling the onslaught and propping up on a bar stool may not have been the best anyway…. So, back to sleep.
