    Tagalog to English Translation

Not certain really if its ok to post this here but here goes: I'm in need of some translating tagalog to english.

gabe ka naman mag message sa akin babes

No idea what it means and already tried all the translation engines I could find.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Plus, I bet I'm not the only one running into tagalog from time to time that needs translating so maybe an official tagalog english translation thread is a decent idea?

Tried Google translator which has Filipino listed instead of Tagalog:

    http://translate.google.com/?hl=en&t...20akin%20babes

Their slightly altered translation said "You also serious message to me babes".

If you are going to use Google Translate, I would suggest that after you have got your translation, you reverse translate it back into English or whichever language you started from to make sure it is not too garbled.

Reason I mention this is that I used it to send a message in Thai, and out of curiosity, I did the reverse translation. It was pretty good, until it came to my name, which it had translated as "Toilet".

Try http://www.bohol.ph/diksyunaryo.php It helped me a lot. But you must piece it together word by word.

    Best regards,

P.S.: Why don´t you just mail it to one of your Philippine honeys and ask them for the meaning. I´m sure, they are going to help...

actually, some of the translators don't work, as the filipinos, in text speak, make short cuts .. like dito - is d2 baby is BB .. off hand, thats I can think of, for examples ..

    et-sys,

"shortcut" was a very nice and friendly description of this particular Philippine way to "write out" things.

I would rather tend to describe it as being crazy about abbreviations.

However, the beginning of this is to be found way back in the times when TELEX was still in use (maybe only the elders among us (45 + years)) and then, of course as the Philippines are one of the biggest markets worldwide for SMS-messages, a lot of things are abbreviated in SMS too, due to typing-lazyness and 160 character-limitation per SMS.

    Best regards,
