    Kundur Island

I plan to go to Kundur, another island of the Riau Archipelago of Indonesia and start a thread on it.

I’ve heard that Kundur is the most beautiful island in Riau.

Kundur Island lies south of Karimun.

Its main town, Tanjung Batu, is at the southern tip of the island.

If any monger has been there before, please throw some light.

I have not been to Tg Batu but await with anticpation the results of mike hussey pathfinding visit. I understand that it is another hour by boat from Tg Balai and that the action there is more rustic not unlike that of Paya Labu. Will mongers please arm mike with more information so that he can be more efficient for all our sake.

    Thanks for your encouragement, Yawuliao.

I’ve been informed there are a few mid-range inns in Tanjung Batu. Hotel Prima, Wisma Berlian and Hotel Gembira seem to be the best value.

I’m still in the dark about the girls and the mongering scene.

Yo Mike, a friend of mine went to Tg. Batu already and he said its a bit below par than Karimun in terms of infrastructure and facilities but the chicks are much more cheaper there.

Myself never been there, but looking at www.avipclub.com, 2 hotels in Tg. Batu, i would say hmm.... not bad. Maybe i'll check it out next time i go to Balai, cheers

    Kundur Island

    Kundur 1

Kundur Island is situated south of Karimun Island in the Straits of Malacca. It is twice the size of Karimun, but slightly smaller than Batam.

Kundur’s main town is Tanjung Batu which lies to the south of the island. Tanjung Batu serves as the only point of entry to the island by sea.

    How to get there

The only mode of transport to Tanjung Batu is only by sea.

For travelers from Malaysia, you need to take a 45-minute ferry ride from Kukup to Tanjung Balai Karimun. There is no direct ride from Kukup. You need to book a return trip to Tanjung Balai costing RM60 excluding RM10 for boarding pass charge.

On reaching Karimun, disembark and buy a ferry ticket to Tanjung Batu costing Rp31000 for a single trip which takes about an hour to reach Tanjung Batu.

    Mongering track

The only mongering track in Kundur Island is at Batu Tujuh, literally means 7th Mile. It is well-known among locals. To reach there, you need to hire an ojek (motorcyclist). For a return trip to Batu Tujuh from your hotel, just pay him Rp20000.

There are 60 houses providing girls at Batu Tujuh settlement [see image]. On the average, each house has 20 girls. The average asking price for LT is Rp200000. Once you agree to any girl, you need to pay first an amount of Rp30000 to “mummy” for the police.

There is an unusual practice in Batu Tujuh. You don’t need to pay the asking price yet. That’s only to be settled directly to the girl on the next morning. Imagine, you book the girl, you screw her the whole day and pay later!

    July 7, 2005

Arrived 9.30am at Tanjung Batu from Karimun. Stayed at Hotel Pelangi for a night.

Went to Batu Tujuh and booked Titi, a Javanese [see image 1].

Hired two motorcycles and spent a couple of hours with Titi at Pantai Lubuk [see image 2].

Pantai Lubuk is a scenic and beautiful beach more than 10 km northwest of Tanjung Batu [see image 3].

    Mike,

So in your opinion, which place is better?
    Kuriman or Kundur?

    Thanks
