BERLIN -- Two females were arrested Wednesday for allegedly promoting prostitution, and one of them was also charged with possessing heroin.


Police say Cxxx Kxxx, 21, of [her address], Groton, and Sxxx Rxxx, 19, of [her address], North Windham, were operating and profiting from a prostitution business. They were doing this from motels on the Berlin Turnpike, according to police.

The police department’s Detective Bureau received information that this prostitution activity was taking place, and they conducted an investigation that led to Kxxx and Rxxx’s arrests.

According to police, Kxxx and Rxxx were advertising their business as an escort service.

Both were charged with second-degree promoting prostitution. Besides that, Kxxx was charged with illegal possession of heroin.

This was part of a larger prostitution sting, and the case was investigated by the Berlin Police Department’s Patrol Division, Windsor Police and Hartford Police.

Kxxx and Rxxx also were arrested at the end of January for possessing heroin and cocaine.

For the prostitution charges, Kxxx made her $50,000 bond and Rxxx made her $25,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on March 3.

Ex-manager of prostitution business sentenced to time served

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The former manager of a city business claiming to be a health club but accused by prosecutors of instead being a house of prostitution was sentenced Friday on charges of using interstate facilities to promote prostitution, federal prosecutors said.

xxxx of Altamonte Springs, Fla., was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Hartford to time served _ 12 months and 13 days _ and three years of supervised release.

xxx, 32, pleaded guilty in February.

Between May and October 2003, xxx was a manager at the Alpha Leisure & Health Club in Hartford, authorities said. The charge of using interstate facilities was related to the use of credit cards verified over interstate wires, prosecutors said.

Federal prosecutors said the business grossed $5.3 million between 1998 and 2003 and had a customer list of more than 4,600 individuals.

In January, xxx [another person], the former owner of the club, pleaded guilty to federal charges of promoting prostitution and money laundering.
