    Pattaya vs. Bangkok

    Hi Guys,

will stay in Thailand end of April for 5 days and have at least 2 days work in Bkk. Does ist make any sense to go to Pattaya for only 2 - 3 days? If yes, is there any similar hotel like JW Marriott in BKK. It is perfect. Upscale but very girlfriendly. You go out of the door and you're in the middle of paradise. Anything similar in Pattaya? I heard the Marriott there is very girl friendly as well, but should be a bit out of the action.

For better planning. Does anybody know a link how to find a Pattaya map with all the action and the hotels.

    Txs for your help

The Marriott is Pattaya is *very* nice. If you have the money for the Marriott, then you will have the money for the go-gos. Trust me on this, only go to the go-gos on and around walking street.

I prefer the quality of girls in the go-gos, that is why i usually stay in the cheap hotels

It is a matter of personal choice wheather or not it is worth going to Pattaya for two or three days vs spending your entire time in Bangkok. Both places are completely different.

Bangkok is a huge city with many things to do and see other than just hunting for girls. The musiums, temples and the Saturday Market are all amazing and well worth a visit. When I was in Thailand I spent a week in Bangkok every day was spent seeing the tourist sites and the nights were spent with the ladies.

Pattaya on the other hand is a beach resort (or sorts). There really isn't a whole lot to see as far as regular tourist sites and to be honest the beach itself isn't all that great either. But the girls in Pattaya in my openion are better and it is possible to spend your entire waking time in Pattaya in pursuit of girls. you can hit the short time bars during the afternoon and the clubs and beer bars at night. Plus the ladys in Pattaya are less expensive as a whole than they are in Bangkok (maybe that isn't a huge issue for you).

So its all a matter of openion as to wheater or not it is worth it or not to take the two to three hour trip south to Pattaya for a few days. Personally, if this is your first and possiblly only trip to Thailand, it would be a shame to not see at least a few of the amazing sites in Bangkok (my personal favorite was spending the day on the river taxis). However, Pattaya is certainly one of the best places on the planet for finding girls.

If I was on a tight schedule and money really wasn't a huge factor, I think I might just stay in Bangkok. You will have no trouble finding a nice lady every night in Bangkok and there is so much to see there that you can be entertained every day you have free. In fact you may get lucky like I did in Bangkok and had a lady from the night before who really wanted to show me the sites the next day (beleave it or not she didn't ask to go shopping!).

    Hi guys,

money is really not the problem. It is a company trip. I own the company, so now boss asks me any questions :-) However I stayed in BKK several times and used there only the JW Marriott. Girls like it hihihi

Please, once more: Is the Marriott far from the action? And is it girl friendly. If I go to Pattaya I definetly stay there. Club room is USD 140, which is only EUR 100,00.

    Mennix,

nothing's far from the action in Pattaya for a man of your means. As in many other destinations, befriend the bell captain; he will get you everything you need, including a driver to sport you around.

Knotsure gave you some good thoughts to consider. I've conducted business a couple times in Thailand on a schedule similar to yours, including a two-night trip to Pattaya. In terms of travel time, it's much shorter right through to set-up in the hotel than what I pull off every summer weekend here back home, or like leaving LA for a San Diego or Palm Springs weekend. Knotsure's dead on regarding Bangkok, but it sounds like you might have seen much of what that great city has to offer.

On my last trip to Pattaya, I ran down with some associates I'd met in Bangkock from various ports. While I was responsible for the proper introductions and accommodations, I was not expected, nor obligated, to join them on their nightly excursions following dinner. Upon our arrival at our resort, I made certain the bell captain brought my luggage to my room, offered him a seat, a drink and a hit off the roach I'd brought in from Tokyo, the very last of the smoke I had left on that side of the Pacific Ocean. Haaa.

An hour before sunset, I met him at the guard gate to the entrance of the resort complex, and he took me for a wild ride as the sun fell out of the sky. We ended up in a cul-de-sac on a small hill at the back of a neighborhood built into the trees. Palm trees and bushes surrounded modest brick and wood houses. My Captain led me to the rear of the last house, past an driveway stacked with coolers, large woofers, speakers, televisons, bar stools, tables and chairs. Sitting around a fire, five guys and two women were laughing, drinking beer, passing aroung two guitars and a couple joints, one for each direction of the circle. The first English I heard were the words, "USA? I been fuckin' America!" Haaa. Right then, both guys on both sides of me hit me on the arms with their elbows, each extending to me the joints. Oh, it's a laugh I'll remember until I breathe my last.

Following a brief lecture on the use of the preposition "to," and a discussion on fucking a country, I secured an ounce of the finest smoke I've had since the '70's, was taken to a store for papers, smokes and whiskey, chewing gum, water, and other various sundries, and to another house in which I met the wife and children of my Captain, and his wife's beautiful sister. Yes, she befriended me, and later we had two perfect, romantic nights together on the beach. When my Captain dropped me back at my hotel, I tried to press 4000baht into his hands, easily half of what I would pay for the smoke back home, as if I could ever score such excellent smoke on this continent. Until that moment I'd only tipped to have my bags carried and purchased as a gift a pouch of tabacco and some papers for my Captain. Very gracefully, he returned me half the money I'd given him and pushed me out the car door. I brought the smoke back to the "fucking USA," and everytime I hit it, all through the autumn and the winter, I remembered all of that night and my generous Captain.

The Pattaya Marriott is about 10-12 minutes of slow strolling via Beach Road to Walking Street, which is the grand central of go-go bars. You'll pass many sois along the way with bars and go-go's. I personally always stay at the Marriott Pattaya when in town, but don't expect it to match the JW in BKK in quality. The hotel is about 3.5 stars. For comparison, I'd rate the Westin BKK a 4-star, the JW Marriott 4.5-star, and the Sheraton Grande a 4.5-star as well.

As for directions, a lot of BKK cabbies won't know it. It used to be the Royal Garden hotel, and there's still a mall by that name attached to it. Basically, you want to drive down Beach Road until you hit the Walking Street, turn around and take the first left on 2nd road. Drive along it, and the Marriott is on your left.

I personally prefer to walk the relatively short distance rather than take the baht buses, but that's a personal preference. The Thai women definitely don't walk. The Marriott is very discreet, and there's a permanently assigned security guy who will take the girl's ID before you go upstairs. If you want her to stay LT and hang by the pool or restaurants, the hotel staff won't even turn a hair.

As for whether to go, it's a decent change of pace from BKK. I go when there isn't enough time to make the flight to Phuket worthwhile. The air quality is MUCH better than BKK, so you can actually hang out by the pool without feeling dirty. If the beach is more your thing, the Marriott has a cordoned off section of the beach where you can still get drink service, but the so-called beach at Pattaya isn't worth the bother.

There are 2 main characteristic between these 2 cities. You find plenty of Massage Parlour all over Bangkok and many many Bear and GOGO Bar at Pattaya. Those who love to drink and hang around the counter chit chating with Thai gals will enjoy staying at pattaya more than in Bangkok. There are few thousand of these Beer & GoGo Bar along the Pattaya streets, even if you will to visit 3 Beer/GoGo Bar per night, it will take you a few months to cover all. Perhaps the attraction is not these Beer/GoGo Bar but more to the beauty of the beach and the sea sport faciltities there.

Don't get me wrong here, I love Pattaya, but to be honest, going to Pattaya for the beach isn't a good plan. When I am in Pattaya, sure I spend some time on the beach. But to be honest, it really isn't much of a beach resort. This is just my openion, but honestly the ONLY reason to go to Pattaya is the thousands of girls and the relaxed atmosphere that the bars there have.

    Mennix,
I understand where you're coming from. Last time I was in BKK, I stayed in the executive suite at the Landmark (just around the corner from the Mariott), which was very upscale. Staying at a nice hotel gave me some extra play with the girls at Nana Plaza as well as just enjoying my stay more. The first night I went to the Rainbow club and picked up the sexist girl in the club. The next night when I went back to the club, girls literally dropped their customers and ran over to me. The only negative was that Landmark charged 1000bht per girl overnight, which seemed excessive. Anway, I'm heading back to BKK and Pattaya 2nd week in April and I'm also looking for upscale girlfriendly hotels in BKK and Pattaya. Was the Bangkok JW Mariott girlfriendly? Was there an overnight charge? Does anyone have any recommendations?

You'll find that all the Marriotts (and other int'l western chains like Westin, Sheraton, Hilton, and Conrad) in Asia are girl friendly. The JW BKK especially, given how it's literally right next to Nana Plaza. You can see it from about 30% of the rooms of the hotel. Unlike the Pattaya Marriott, they won't bother with taking the girl's ID, but there's still no joiner fee.

The drawback is that if you tell the girl you're in one of the 4-star+ hotels, they sometimes ask ridiculous opening prices like 2.5k+ baht.

    Hey Arris,
Thanks, do you mean that JW Mariott does not have a guest fee? I don't mind giving the girls a big tip but I feel ripped off when the hotel wants a piece of the action.

No extra fees for either Marriott (JW in BKK or the one in Pattaya). They know what their clientele are doing, of course, but no extra $$ involved for the hotel. They figure the rates are high enough by themselves.
