Here is a brief on my trip to JKT in December, 2004. Hope that it helps, if you need more info, let me know.
Finally made it to JKT, but my experiences were not that great. Nice place friendly people (much more so than in Bangkok) but I must have done something wrong.
First thanks to oljoe1 and poesing for their input, it was really useful.
Anyway here is my story and I will try to keep it short. But it really is meant for first timers in JKT not experienced mongers.
I arrived in JKT on a 16/12, but before I went I booked a hotel through the Net at a special rate (they said) of 275,000 Net/night, while waiting for luggage at the airport I noticed a small booth with hotels advertised, so I checked it out. The same hotel Paragon was listed at 220,000 per night, so I booked it there instead, as I hadn't guaranteed my previous booking. So guys check the desk in the arrival hall first.
Next don't take any taxis from the arrival hall, price to Paragon 150,000, instead (and I always do this in BKK) go upstairs to arrival and grap a taxi that just dropped of someone, price to Paragon 50,000.
My first night I went to Jaska street as recommended by the forum experts and I managed to see all 6 girls working on the street it was a dead night. Then I met this one person at a bar, and here is where my mistakes started. She was obviously a 'mamasan' type girl as many guys seemed to know her, that is a bad sign. For don't expect good service from a popular pro. She wanted to hang around me (due to lack of business) and we finally ended up in my room, where she started with the rules of what she doesn't do, which was pretty much everything. So I asked her to leave and then I got the baby story, finally paid her so that she would leave. Not a good start.
Next subject discos, Lintas Melawi is closed as I was told when I got there, it is no longer a disco. Stardust is also closed but it is now a Karaoke bar, more stories on that later. Went to Tanumur and JJ and there were about 25-30 persons in the bar, all working for the bar to hit you up for drinks. Tanumur drinks are 45,000 a shot and my new 'friend' seemed to like to drink. JJ's the drins are 70,000 a shot. With so few people it could hardly be called a disco.
So that's it for now have some more stories but really not exciting.
One note be careful when you get a visa on arrival as they tell you that a 3 days is enough and when I tried to leave I had to pay a fine for overstaying.
This country looks to rip-off people at every turn.
Some other hotels in the CBD try hotel Cimura or right next door is another new hotel, can't remember the name at the moment.
Did not see much pro action around the CBD and the 24 hr McDonalds.
bkk212, I feel for you. Your info was years out of date. I don't know why people keep bringing up Jalan Jaska. I've been going to JKT off and on since 1997, and have never seen anything worth doing on that street. Tanamur and JJ's are a shadow of their former selves. IMHO, if you're a bule (white), best bets are massage parlor on 6th floor of Melawaii Hotel and D's and My Bar, all in Blok M. If you're a little on adventurous side and don't mind being where there aren't many English speakers, check out Jalan Manga Besar area -- there are some very attractive women available at very low prices. I didn't have good luck in hotel bars last trip, December 2004, although others like them. I posted something more detailed in a different thread.

Thanks for the info. I tried to go to Blok M but that is when some guy said that the disco was closed. I guess my first time out in JKT I had to do a bit of learning. My problem is that I am not caucasian and therefore have to stick to more 'friendly' places, just as here in BKK. I guess JKT was like that but not sure. SO that's why I tried out the 'more' friendly places.
I will be back though and definitely will try some of the other places. I am not into massage parlors (a lot) I am more the night club/dance person but would like to go where there is a chance to pick up some ladies, even if I am not caucasian
Have you heard of a place called 30's, if so what type of place is it?

30' is the Bar in Hotel Le Meredien, in Central Business District in Jakarta, very easy to find. Ladies are most likely Semi pro to pick up, price range are in the USD 50 to 100. But if a lady do like you you can have her for free. Investments for this are only a couple of drinks and a good trained ear to listen.

Across the Street where Stadium is located (Maybe about 100M towards the downtown. I am quite sure it still exist.)
I think it is called Disco 1001. 5th floor. Inside there is small bar with the band. You will see higher quality girls inside the bar or fishbowl behind bar.
Looks like they have short time rooms also (Never tried ST because i don't like ST). They were asking 800K rupia for LT in your hotel back in 2001.
They were top of line girls in my opinion (Much much better than girls in Stadium). Chinese girls were available for 2 mil rupia (was not beautiful).
I am sure if they still have fishball behind the bar though.
Some other hotel bars, like 30 (Tigapuluh) in Le Meridien that Erawan mentioned -- Retro in Crown Plaza, BATS in Shangri La, CJ's in Hotel Mulia. CJ's the times I've visited had a good band and on busy nights (Friday, Saturday, and lady's night, which I think is Wednesday) a lot of people dancing. Retro gets going later than the rest. BATS tends to attract more bule's (whites) than the others. As far as Disco's go, if you're looking for pro's and semipros that speak English, My Bar in Blok M is a good bet. Hope to have a chance to visit 1001 and Stadium some day -- they sound interesting.
anyone on the ground know the dengue fever situation? I'll be in bali, in Mar, was thinking of popping up to jkt, to check it out if Bali sucked, i've heard the pros are hotter in jkt than the pros in bali. all I know about the dengue was in jkt post online, seemed pretty bad. thanks, peace
Lots of better places that Jalen Jaksa.. all mentioned in these pages.. But Jalen Jaksa isn't the place to go to meet girls.
Now one place which was fun is the Tierrain Lokasari mall. Just ask the taxi driver for Lokasari they all know.. Also mentioned elsewhere in these pages.
Now.. I have to tell you guys that I am 51.. and I can afford my hobby.. and I don't mind giving the girls a little more.. It kinda motivates them to my way of thinking....
As a result.. one girl I met at Lokasari.. Diah.. 20, married, one kid, but tight and open minded.. was quite happy to set me up with a younger neighbour of hers for about a week. She didn't speak English too well.. but an open attitide and a translation dictionary did the trick.. When I met her naighbour Nur I had to ask and ask again how old she was.. to verify that she was indeed old enough.. But after being assured many times that she was indeed of the legal age.. However.. once assured.. then I proceeded to introduce her to what I wanted.. and she obliged.. again and again and again.. for the whole week. Man.. what a sweet and petite body that girl had.. it's been two months now and I just can't get her outta my head. Love that look of effort as she took me inside, and how sweaty she got as I gave her a work out. Kinda fun having the first girl there too instructing the second one in Behasa exactly how the old guys likes it.
So the moral.. don't be shy to ask one girl ro introduce you to another that's more to your taste.. Give her a few bucks for it..
BTW.. ended up playing pool with the 20 year old's husband.. now that was a trip.. We bet 500,000 Rupiah against a night with his wife.. Kinda like Indecent Proposal with Demi Moore.. shit.. I lost. Lots of places to play pool in JKT.. More than I would expected.
Best night of all was my very last night in Jakarta after a full month.. Diah and Nur came over for the afternoon for a pool party.. with Diah's husband, her kid, a buddy of her husband and another girl.. very cute.. 18 years old. at the end of a very pleasant afternoon.. with good company and good food.. Diah's husband took the kid and his buddy and left.. And Diah brings out a box of 4 viagara tablets which she had bought for me.. and says "dave.. you party with three we tonite".. in the cute shitty English that she had managed to learn. Well.. lets just say that by the time I got on my flight to HK the next day I was a WRECK. Without a doubt one memorable night.. tied down for half the night .. with three eager beavers.
So guys.. sometimes you get what you pay for.. Trying to fuck one of the girls i was with for Rp100,000.. well.. i couldn't do it.
