Right, you'll have the guarantee that no bouncer will let you enter a nightclub.

Clothing: I totally agree with you about wearing more what locals wear. Usually the nicer clubs and restaurants, men will be nicer dressed, either dress casual or dress. Not uncommon to see guys in sports coats in nice clubs. But dress casual is okay. Shorts are usually only worn by tourists and never ever wear fanny packs--Ha. Surely foreign tourists and also advertises were you have your valuables.
Hope you have a great time. I love Kenya and if they traffic was not bad, Nairobi would be great.
This is their winter, so expect temps to be around 60-70 degrees F during days and 50's at night. Got to love that when USA n where you are going back to, is 100 degrees. Anyway your long sleeves will fit in great.
    Enjoy.

    thank you simba

the temperatures sound acceptable to me
maybe a little chilly at night
but since one wont sleep alone much that shouldnt be to much of a problem

yet im thinking is it that good of an idea to go there at first winter days?

what time would be their spring? is there a phase between high and low season? so i could have a slow start to acclimate and more action when i am used to my new surroundings

Their Spring is our Fall, so temps start warming up kidogo (little) around Sept to November, then summer is Dec, Jan, Feb which is hottest time of year, then our Spring is their Fall. I think that slowest time is probably Our Spring but usually whenever tourists are not around.

High Season usually relate to tourist vacations, which is our Summer and Winter. You can figure this out by highest rates on airlines and lodges, etc.
    Hope this helps.
    Have fun.

In our November I think there are not many tourists at Matwapa and I think there is not high hotel rate.
    Do I make a mistake?

any advise on preventing malaria ? how do you deal with mosquitos

what kind of clothing would you recommend always long sleves and long legged pants or is it ok to wear a shirt and shorts when using mosquitospray
Take malarone for malaria prevention. Start 2 days before you arrive in malaria zone, one pill per day while you are there, and for about 1 week after. No or minimal side effects. I have not had any adverse effects.

so here is a lil update and some further questions

given the fact that the german politicians came up with a additional flight tax starting 2011
i had a change of plans and will go on my trip in december

    to the questions
this might be retarded but i was wondering if toiletpaper is common and available everywhere

i know that in many muslim countrys and also countrys as india they use the "hand shovel"

do kenyans use tp? or is it at least available for tourists?

also i have read that you are not supposed to visit public or religious places due to the dangers of possible terroristic acts
but beside the 2002 incident i couldnt find one single article about terrorism in and around mombasa

so what is your opinion is there a real threat ? or do they just play safe

    thanks again everybody

    TP?
U can find TP in all nice hotels and some not so nice. Now for the poor, it is less common, but very common in stores. I usually tell me visitors or people I take over to take some wet ones or small kleenex for emergencies, but we also go down to slum areas to work with poor, thus the reason for this. If you don't visit slums or poor areas, u will be fine. Nearly all nice hotels are good n have TP.
I have lived in Kenya and been going there for many years, and only the bombing of embassy in NRB was the only terrorist attack that I dealt with. Never any other issues. So yes, public and religious places are fine to visit. Just being overprotective.
Enjoy your stay. Some great people and lovely ladies.

I cant speak for Mombasa but in Nairobi you can buy it at any pharmacy without a prescription. I assume it is the same in Mombasa. Cialis was about 13$US last year for a tab.
