Police Hunting Down Pattaya Message Board Porn Posters

    Something to think about

If you thought your password made it safe for you to post nude photos of your Thai teerak on a Pattaya Internet message board, think again. Pattaya police not only have “Level 2″ access, but some enterprising officers are hunting down amateur pornographers and their models and demanding payoffs under threat of jail time.

What does the law consider to be porn. Do pretty tame topless photos qualify?

    It's a grey area.

The bottom line is if you LIVE in Thailand and don't want any hassle then don't take or post nude pictures of any bar girls.

It is illegal to show even a pair of breasts on Thai tv or a Thai Magazine so I guess even a pair of boobs could be classed as porn.
Especially if it were posted on a site about bars and bar girls. Hardly art is it.

Thais get away with lots of stuff from making movies to selling porn but Farangs have no protection and if it comes to anyone's attention then the Farang could be in big trouble.

Thailand has some of the strictest anti porn/nudity/free speech Laws in the World. The problem is that corruption runs rampant and people get away with a lot of things.

    Story Has Been Debunked

The story about police hunting down Internet posters has been debunked on the Pattaya boards. It was an attempt (quite successful, actually) to attract attention to a blog that otherwise had about five readers. But in the end, the only result has been to make the guy behind the blog an object of derision. The blog's author has been forced to significantly revise his original article because he got it so wrong.

To be sure, you can get into a lot of trouble for taking dirty pics in Thailand and even the mild topless stuff counts as pornography. If the police happen to discover locally made pornography featuring Thai girls on your computer/camera/DVDs/whatever, you can be in for a hell of a hassle. That's a very good reason for not taking nude pics, much less hard-core stuff.

However, it's not true that the Thai police are using Internet boards to "hunt down" amateur photographers. On occasion, the BIB have gone after PROFESSIONAL pornographers who run pay sites, but there is no indication they have gone looking for girls whose pictures appeared on Internet boards in order to squeeze amateur photographers.
