I haven't been to Thailand yet. My friend says Pattaya is known as Thailand's wildest city. Is it crazier than BKK? From what I've read, it doesn't seem more "depraved"than BKK? Anyone agree? Disagree?

Pattaya easily has 5 times the hookers than Bangkok at less than half the price and is where experienced travelers go. First timers generaly go to Bangkok because they know little other that what they've heard from the sensationalist TV reports that "Bangkok is the Sex Capital" they also overpay so now the girls in Bangkok demand 3000 baht for an hour of sex when the Pattaya beer bar girls spend the night with you for 1000 baht. I never go to Bangkok anymore.
BKK is a big city, Pattaya is a big brothel.

And BKK is so crowded, hot and everytime traffic jam. Go to Patty, enjoy
the breeze and spend a few times on the islands
And believe it, Patty is much cheaper also for drinks and accomodation

Patty = cheaper, more choice.
BKK = some stunners, but alot more attitude, and inflation of 50 to 100% on price.
I would spend a couple of Days in BKK. And 12 in pattaya, on a two week holiday.
I have heard good things about Tulips, found good quality in CM2 (NOT cheap here! $100 to 150.), and found some bargins in Nana plaza. just be prepared to negotiate.

Pattaya is SEX town! So if you want sex, head direct to Pattaya, and it is much cheaper compare to BKK. For example, a-go-go bar girls in BKK need 2000b for ST, with this price, you can have LT in Pattaya.

I like to go to both places each trip. They are only two hours apart by taxi or express bus. The change of scenery is nice. But Pattaya is cheaper.
Plenty of freelancers/ bar girls in Bangkok for 1500 baht LT, yes Pattaya is cheaper but you are exagerating wildly. Think you will also find a good few noobs in Pattaya, especially in high season, which is why a lot of the walking street go go girls are a hell of a lot more than 1000 baht.Originally Posted by nightowl2548

You're right, walking street gogo's are a ripoff tourist trap. But there are good deals to be found in the beer bars around town. Don't ask the price, you're singling out yourself as a newbie and she'll try to play you. If you go for the bar's "queen" you also might get quoted a high price as such high demand girls can be selective. With an average bargirl just hand them 1000 baht in the morning.
If you've never been to Bangkok go for your first 3 days and see the sights, Grand Palace, Jim Thompson House, river boat tours are interesting, just don't buy all the junk when the tours take you to the factory shops after the sites to try to milk suckers of their baht. Then head to Pattaya. And DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take a bangkok bargirl with you as company to pattaya. It is like bringing sand to the beach. A foolish move I see newbies making.

I agree most Pattaya hookers should be content with 1k baht in the morning, but i would be careful. What if in the morning she demands 3k and says thats her going rate? It's generally best to get a price even if you say it in a not so business manner.
Sorry, I am no Pattaya fan. I strongly prefer Bangkok.
Jeremy i agree with you 100%! I get very bored when i go anywhere outside of BKK for too long. I can last about 4 days in Pattaya and then want to get back to civilization. I love the action in BKK! So many restaurants, high so joints, and various things to do. Pattaya is a big brothel and even that gets old after a while. But it looks like its only us two that feel this way.. so maybe we are just odd balls. LOL
I agree but I think it is good to see both places, Pattaya is certainly cheaper with most average Beer Bar girls wanting 1000 baht LT, in Bangkok you will be looking at 1500-2000 for LT. (even more for the top Go-Go girls)
I'm unsure on this one at the moment. I like Bangkok but probably because I have spent a lot of time there in the past so know the city (or at least the bits I need to know) pretty well. So far I've only had a couple of brief trips to Pattaya and most of the time with the ball and chain, but what I saw I liked. Bangkok has everything you could want except a beach, but it's pretty spread out and the mongering is a bit dearer. Pattaya is nice and compact with girls everywhere, as Shagmeister says it's a big brothel.
Next trip I'll probably spend two or three days in Bangkok then head off to Pattaya, the rest of the trip I'll play by ear depending how much I'm enjoying Pattaya. Nice to be near the beach though - even if it is crap. It will be my first time in Thailand as a single guy - can't wait!
