Smile The COOLEST bar in Pattaya...GUARANTEED!

I just found this online while reading the online Pattaya Today Newspaper. This has got to be the coolest bar in all of Thailand...literally! They keep the room at -5 degrees. Apparently the bar, glasses and chairs are made of real ICE.
This place looks way too classy for Pattaya. If you are tired of the sweltering heat, same ole sleezy bars and your feeling a bit adventurous why not give it a try.

Are there any WSG members currently in Pattaya that would be willing to check this place out and report back? This seems like a really classy, and fun place but it is probably NOT for those "cheap charlies" that are on a 1000 baht a day budget.

It is located inside: The Amari Nova Suites, Soi 12, Off Pattaya Klang Road.

I am definately going to check this place out when I go back. A nice change of pace from all those sleazy outdoor bars on Soi 6.
Any other info on "classy" joints in Pattaya would be appreciated.

Looks nice and plush but it's probably full of tourists and no Thai girlies - how many Thais are gonna stay in a room thats -5 degrees? (I suppose the Russian ones will enjoy it though)!

A friend of mine just got the job of managing the supper club and bar. I think he's got his work cut out to make the place busy for several reasons but obviously I wish him good luck.

I took Bangbang into the -5 C bar. It's good fun as a one off for twenty minutes. They provide thick coats and the vodka is free, although they charge a 500 baht per person entry fee for the ice bar and limit the time anyone is allowed to remain inside.

Great. It'll be good to go somewhere hot. I'm sick and tired freezing my balls off in Scotland.

    bye bye value

I hope that I'm wrong but my guess is that in a few years bars like this place will be the norm. And the Pattaya that we know today will be long gone and overrun with cash-flashing farangs that are willing to pay those prices nightly as well Thai girls who used to live at home on 4000 baht per month that now expect that amount to be spent on their bar bill.

I can understand why guys like Mr.Shagmeister that live there would enjoy a place like this from time to time. Or even the short time visitor maybe for an evening during his trip. But at the risk of sounding repetitive,it is beyond me why guys that have nearly identical setups as watering holes back home travel so far for the same experience & pricing when far away. I can practically holler out of my window and get a waitresses attention at these types of joints where I live.

I know that open air lady bars aren't the lap of luxury but they are a good value as well as a unique experience compared to where most of us come from. I am also aware that many farangs while in Pattaya cannot fathom operating, spending or living any differently than they do in their normal comfort zone. And because of this begins the viscious cycle of spoiled working girls with good attitudes gone bad, high prices and a long list of negative effects that help next to nobody.

Might work if they included a free BJ

This has got to be one of the worst ideas for a bar that I've ever seen.

It must cost a bundle to keep the huge room frozen. It has a novelty factor that will wear off after the first 20 minutes of free vodka shooters. Given how fast Thais will likey move in the freezing temps, you probably will be lucky if you get a second drink during the 1st 20 minutes.

My guess is that this place will be a distant memory before July.

Those are pretty much my ideas as well. I can't see the ice bar ever being anything other than a 'try it one time' novelty.

I disagree with 2muchthai. I don't think Pattaya will get lots of upmarket bars in the near future, those type of places have never been popular in this town. Look at Hard Rock as an example.

If the promised reccession hits farang countries as hard as it might I think Pattaya will be struggling for tourists of any kind.

Being a tuned in local you would probably have better vision on this than I.

And as I stated in the first sentence of my post,I hope that I'm wrong.

I agree, I can't see it myself, the bar will struggle to find regulars.

I personally don't travel half way around the world to freeze my nuts off. I like the heat and nothing turns me off more than a bar with air con too low never mind sub zero temperatures.

Yeah you guys are probably right, It will probably be a one-time thing for most people. It is an interesting gimmick, but probably won't attract regulars.
Hopefully it will still be there when I go back to Pattaya. Besides that, anyone ever stayed at the Amari Suites? The hotel and rooms look nice!

Two farang friends had a room each there recently. They were paying 70,000 baht a month per room. They said they were satisfied with the place but they weren't raving about it.

Nothing is going to change the fact that it is in a poor location, especially for a high end property.

The -5 c bar has one good thing going for it. Take your Thai girlfriend/potential Wife in and you will see how attractive she looks in a parka with a hood on it.
Cause that's how she's going to look when she goes back to Europe or Canada with you.

    Talk about insight...
