    Pattaya closed...again

Yes for the 4th or 5th time in the last 6 months all the bars in Thailand are shut due to some election or other. They are supposed to open after midnight tommorow but who knows if some of the bar owners will take a chance and open early.

Combined with the usual religious and public holidays this means that there have been between 15 and 20 'dark' days in LOS in the last twelve months.

A lot of the beer bars serve drinks but turn off the lights and music, but most of the better looking girls take a days holiday.

With the ecconomic situation in most farang countries getting worse by the day I wonder if the Thais will ever wake up to the damage they are doing to their own tourist industry.

    I doubt it.

    I was so angry in the past about that; this town is living from the tourist;
not from fishing aso. But the Thais; they have their places to have all the fun.
    They never learn/understand that the tourist rate getting lower every year;
and the western tourist getting older and older
In my time i called my darling and made a party in my room

    So enjoy

I doubt it either. There's been some disturbing stuff coming out of Thailand recently. LIke the two Korean Women found dead on Koh Larn. Strange Police story about a double suicide or something when both had their heads bashed in!

They have arrested a Thai Man for not standing for the King in the Cinema while playing the National Anthem. 15 years He could serve in Prison.

Thais have their heads too far up their own arses to worry about closing bars.

The Russians and the 'new' tourists will be making up for winging ex-pats like yourself.
No disrespect intended but they don't want long stayers just 2 week millionaires who spends a few Million baht buying a house then pisses off Home.

From the bad ecconomic news coming out of Europe and America how many of these two week millionaires are going to come to Pattaya in the next year compared to the past ? My guess is that the number of visitors to Thailand is going to drop dramatically.

Better for those of us lucky enough to be living here I suppose

    Yes, you could be right.

The 'credit crunch' is certainly hurt me having had two prospective buyers having to pull out of property deals, at my considerable cost.
But never mind I have a good Lawyer.

The £ isn't doing too well against the baht and life in the UK is very expensive. £1.20 for a litre of diesel now.
Only $10.78 a gallon for our American members. Great value!

Here's some extracts from an article e-mailed to me today...

So, with the eurozone becoming an increasingly expensive holiday destination, if you're looking to book a holiday that is both enjoyable and cheap, what's the alternative?
If you're prepared to fly long haul, then the extra money you'd fork out for the flight could potentially be offset against the savings you'd make on purchases while away.
A good example of a bargain holiday destination is Thailand. Although the Thai baht has actually risen against sterling over the past year, climbing just over 10% over 12 months, it is still the Post Office's top destination when it comes to cheap holidays:
Despite the strengthening baht, essentials in Thailand such as food and drink weighed up at under a third of the cost of the same items in Australia, and were well under the average price of the shopping basket across the eurozone.
In fact, the Post Office's survey of 16 different destinations across ten commodities (ranging from the price of a cup of coffee to the average price of a three course meal in a local restaurant) placed Thailand as the cheapest holiday destination

I've read several very similar articles in the press in recent weeks. Those who can still afford to go on holiday are being encouraged to come to Thailand rather than European resorts to save money, (And that's before they factor in the cheaper mongering costs!). So they might still increase their tourist numbers despite their best efforts to destroy it.
Even worse, if they get enough Mr & Mrs Smiths coming with 2.4 kids they might start to decide the farang sex industry is no longer vital to the economy

    Cool Pattaya will suffer

The difference between Pattaya and other places in LoS is reputation of sex tourism resort.
If mongers are kick out and families still not willing to go there (its reputation will last for long). Pattaya city will take the damage.

How will they finance those giant construction, condo and hotels, if the monger tourists (coming 2,3 times a year) go to the south (phuket for example) and the regular one keep avoiding it.

Those measure will not affect regular tourist (who don't go out at night to drink with a lady on their lap) and sex tourism will not stop, since Isaan is a big provider of girls: for thai men (and sometimes foreigners).

You're not understanding what the credit crunch is all about.

The banks have stopped giving mortgages and lending to people. So it doesn't matter if Joe Bloggs council house is ten grand cheaper to buy this year...because people who want to buy can't borrow the money any more.
    Hence the term 'credit crunch'

Red diesel is illegal to use on private vehicles. Much better to make your own bio-diesel. New Government laws allow someone who registers as a private user is allowed 2500 litres a year tax free for personal use.
I plan to do this and buy a kit to make the stuff.

Prices in Scotland are UP...but the buyers are down because the banks wont lend the money.

Their mortgage landing policies have changed. The 100% mortgages are gone just about.

Even Permisson the UK's biggest house builder has STOPPED building. My Mate's a builder and he reckons they can buy a full kit house for £6000 companies that big. Unless people are going to start giving away their properties (and that's not likely) we have a situation because of the recession in America where the banks have lost huge sums of money and are just not lending.
I lost £45K in the American markets the last couple of years so I know the feeling

And the Government has blown the rental market apart too. From the 7th April any properties rented to DSS tenants are facing a change in the Law. The rent money goes directly to the DSS tenant..not the Landlord. Can you imagine the problems there are going to be trying to get your money back from junkies and DSS dossers. Not likely is it.

well lets hope it goes that way

there is still a shortage of housing in the uk at the moment
ok there might be a slight "correction" in prices but thats all
demand is still sky high and with many eastern europeans living here
i cant see the bottom dropping out of the market just yet

maybe you could concentrate on the upper end of the rental market

if you want to rent a property here in london the first rule is NO DHSS

of course a lot depends on what you have to rent
