I read that in Esquire magazine a little over a year ago.

The author visited Shenzhen and interviewed a few Western expats there. They weren't talking about paid providers of course. They were talking about being in high demand with the local girls.

I would have loved to read more about that aspect of life in Shenzhen as an expat, but that was just about all that was stated.

I have no idea if the expat cited was talking about women in the work place, women on the street, or women met at clubs.

Can anyone comment on this?

Is it substantially different from being an expat in say Shanghai or Singapore?

I would love to know.

In Beijing, where I live, the pro's certainly love foreigners, they charge more, foreigners are seen as walking ATM's.

As for non-pro's not so many chase foreigners but to list the last two years here, I have had a 27 year old, a 23 year old and a 20 year old all enquire as to whether I lived in an apartment and each asked if they could move in, I had only recently met each of these girls when they asked and had not dated them.

This is the last two years but I have been here seven years now and the first five were no different.

Less direct were a number of other girls, some married, I have settled on a 28 year old who I dated for a couple of weeks before she moved in for weekend stays (gives me time to play during the week this way).

I am no spring chicken and won't see 60 again. Reasons seem to vary but in the background it is always either economic or due to bad relationships with their chinese partner.

I find that treating a girl well (non-pro or pro) leads to a good relationship in most cases, except for the hardened pro's of course, it also pays to be able to identify the occassional 'nutter' and avoid them altogether.

I haven't spent nearly as much time in China, but have a number of female friends there, most of whom are busting their tails 6 days a week at offices or factories and either in, or getting over, relationships with local guys who treat them like chopped liver... when a "westerner" comes along and treats them like something better than slave-class, they notice and appreciate it.

When a Westerner comes to China and treat these girls to a dinner and KTV, etc...they see us as a meal ticket, a way to a green card, etc. Yes, we treat them nice and stuff and we expect something in return...perhaps sex. :

Green cards might have some appeal to them - but China might have some appeal to us, too. I'd definitely consider staying there for a long while if I had a contract, or had enough money coming in to not need one.

I completely understand your point of view, there are some really nice Chinese girls who like to be with a good man and not interested in his money or green card opportunity. I think the green card hunters are the ones that always ask you questions about your job, income level, assets, etc....if you encounter these girls you can either tell them that you're a millionaire and you're looking for a chinese wife and once you get them in the sack, hump them and dump them
