I know some rudimentary Spanish from High School classes. It helps but in general you do not need Spanish here. I would however recommend getting a hand held translator, for example the one made by Franklin which is like $65 on Amazon. It actually speaks and is the model number BES-1850.

Also sold in electronics stores like Best Buy or on good old eBay. Holy cow, I just searched eBay and they are selling them there for just 99 cents...!!! Go figure...

If in another case, you are talking about "dating" chicks here and you want to have more complex communications you can hire a personal translator who also can act as a guide, keeping you out of trouble and making sure you don't get ripped off. There are just so many things to do here and so many girls here it overwhelms the senses. It is truly paradise for men no doubt about it. I have been to Barranquilla (YUCK) and Medellin (HOT CHICKS, DUMPY CITY)... All in all Cartagena rocks... Over the past few years I have been to Kiev, Vinnitsa, Kherson, Nikolaev and Odessa in the Ukraine, also Saint Petersburg, Russia, Costa Rica, Thailand, Peru, ETC. Cartagena tops them all in terms of decent prices, great food, accessibility, comforts, hot chicks, etc. Highly recommended.

I had a good time in Medellin. You need a great TAXI DRIVER because Medellin is so spaced out and everything you want is all over the place. Cartagena is all walking distance...

I stayed at the Casa Victoria Hotel in Medellin 0115742685099. My amazing taxi driver was Jorge 011573146200455. Jorge can pick you up at the airport and show you around. He knows all the great stuff. The guy rocks. He used to live in Florida so he speaks good English and knows all the cultural stuff and differences.

Jorge knows where to take you for sexo. I went with him to a casa which was out of this world. A really nice house - a compound truly... A little bit of a drive, with a gate and guards and such. The girls pass through one by one, wearing bikini bottoms and introduce themselves... Each hotter than the last... You see about 20 girls - all LA 9's and 10's... None over 23. Then you pick (not an easy task)... It runs about $80. Unreal. Called "Loutron" - supermodel quality girls - 4444204 or 3214490.
