I'm just about to book to go to Mombasa, thinking of leaving U.K on 14th Jan,
is anyone out there just now ?
Is there any probs there now regarding the recent probs ?, Is it safe to go there ?
Is anyone going to be there between 14 - 21st Jan ?

Just got off phone with friend in Kenya. He says it is getting better, but still not back to normal yet. I suggest you read East African Standard Online or check news from Kenya. Most there think in a week things will be okay.
Bad timing, sorry.

thanks very much, I'll have a look, but still think that unless things get a lot worse, or it moves to Mombasa,
I'll probably still book it and go, cos a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do ,,

Please; any update welcome. I booked bamburi beach in march; roumors
said that the beach areas are quite; what about mombasa city; i love
the casablanca area.
Thx

I wouldn't book anything until the last minute. I was going to be in kenya for xmas, but with the election coming, I wanted to avoid things. The luo and kikuyu tensions have been brewing for a long long long time.

errrr, this is the last minute, I want to be there in 12 days time,

and like steve I also want to go into the town itself, mainly cos I want a couple of street girls, to see how they compare against the normal bar girls.
I may have some more info in the next few days guys, I think I've got the phone number of my hotel cleaner from last year, I'll phone him to checkout the conditions locally, If I can get in touch with him, I'll post all details .

good luck to you. I personally wouldn't value the opinion of a local who WORKS in the hotel industry, as they need tourists.
I'm still waiting for a few expats I know to get back to me about the conditions.

latest advice from the Foreign Office, but they are probably just covering there backside![]()
I've just got these from the UK, FOREIGN OFFICE website

KENYA: FOREIGN OFFICE AMENDS TRAVEL ADVICE (31/12/07)
The Foreign Office today revised its Travel Advice for Kenya due to the serious and continuing outbreaks of unrest in parts of the country following the disputed Presidential election results.
The summary now reads:
British High Commission officials continue to monitor the situation and travel advice will be updated at regular intervals
We advise against all but essential travel to Kisumu, Kakamega, Kericho, Eldoret and the Kisauni area of Nyali district in Mombasa, and Likoni and Tiwi areas south of Mombasa.
We also advise against all but essential travel to the city centre, Uhuru Park, Kibera, Mathare, and Eastleigh areas of Nairobi.
We recommend that you stay indoors. If you need to travel you should exercise extreme caution and seek advice locally.
There continues to be serious unrest in parts of Kenya, particularly in urban centres, following the announcement of the presidential election results.
There are reports that 124 Kenyan nationals have been killed in the disturbances. National security forces have been deployed in some areas. The situation is fluid and we are updating our travel advice regularly.

info based on reports from the 7th to 10th of Jan - (so don't take it as guaranteed to stay like this) from what I hear from expats and locals in mbasa, its both quiet and a bit dull around the tourist areas, as tourists are strongly advised NOT to leave thier hotels, and clubs like tembo were not open for new years. supplies are a little short as well. otherwise its okay, but the mood is sombre. AS not many tourists, locals are short of cash, alot depends on nov/dec/jan/feb bringing in cash for the rest of the yr.

I think it might remain in a state of uncertainess for quite a while. Probably best to avoid as people won't be in a real party mood. On the other hand, it might be interesting to get a feel for whats going on there.

beacause of the situation there will be hardly any tourists so if anyone went there would be alot more girls wanting a foreign guy...this in turn means you can drive the price down (not that you ever have to pay for a bang in kenya anyways).

I think in the tourist areas there is no the problem about violence; but for
me spending the evening in town; i don`t know. And if more and more
shops and bars are closing; sit only at the hotel bar; boring.
I booked at the 7 th of march; so any update is welcome
Thx
