Best and safest spots in Medellin to hang out?

Ive heard Poblado and Laureles are the safest parts of medellin. Any other good places I can check out where I wont have to worry about getting robbed/kidnapped/drugged?

Most barrios of Belen as well as several other barrios like Estadio or Los Conquistadores are also safe. Envigado and Sabaneta are just outside the city adjoining Poblado and are safe as well. Here is a map: http://www.medellin.gov.co/alcaldia/...%20RURAL2a.jpg

I have no problems where ever I go and I go all over Medellin, but I always have a native with me. Medellin is like any other city I would not walk or even sometimes drive in Watts section of LA or Harlem in NY you just have to be aware of your surrounding. Don't get to drunk if you are alone, always call for a cab, don't wear fancy watches, gold chains etc leave the fancy jewlery at home. only carry the amount of money you plan to spend for the night. Leave the rest with your passport, important documents, plane ticket etc lock in the safe in your room. Carry copies of everything not originals. A big help is to wear cargo pants they are great you have tons of pockets for your cell phone, notebook, translator, wallet & money so you can carry everything in your front pockets. Never put your wallet in your back pocket it makes it easy for pick pockets.

If you just use common sense you will be fine, if you are a heavy drinker try to stay with a group so that if you get to blitzed they will make sure you will get home safe. I was out one night with Robert the owner of the Castillo and some other mongers who were staying at the Mansion. I don't drink unless Im on vacation far away from home and I was drinking pretty heavy that night. We were at Chicago night cluband there was a bunch of off duty Colombian army soilders at the table next to us. Since I had been a Marine I started a conversation with them we were having a great time and they kept buying me drinks. By the end of the evening I was was sitting at their table and Robert and the guys wanted to go back to the Mansion. I wanted to stay there with my new found friends but Robert said he was not going to leave me there alone. So they draged me out and made sure I got back safe, who knows what would have happened if they had left me there. Maybe nothing but no one wanted to take that chance. So never go out drinking alone always have one or two wingmen with you.
