Inexpensive stay in Shanghai

Sorry to post this, but I have rummaged through this site and can't find a thread on this - but I know it must have been covered before.

Where can I stay in Shanghai for an inexpensive sum (£25 ; $50 approx per night) and be very near the tourist area of Nanging road. This is my VERY FIRST visit to Shanghai or China. Please, a few hotel names and website so I can book. I arrive in Shanghai on the 8th August 2005. Many thanks.

I stayed at one called Greentree Hotel, close to Jing An temple and Nanjing Road. The price is only RMB258 and it was clean and included breakfast and had Internet. But I can't find it with Google. The credit card charge appeared as GE LIN HAO TAI.

Shanghai has a glut of hotels. Worst case you book something more expensive for one night and then find something cheaper the next day.

It would have been nice if you had the phone number. Oh, for a cheap option you could try the Jin Jian Inn. They hotels all over Shanghai. I think they have about 7 of them.

I think the most expensive room is 258 rmb down to about 178 RMB. It's a clean place. It also has internet. Doesn't offer much in amenities but it's alright for one or two nights.

You can call 021 3876 4588 to make a reservation. It's a central number and some of the operators speak English. Just try your luck.

YOu may log in www.hostelworld.com in this there are very good and cheap hostels as well as budget hotels around 20 uSD onwards
i had stayed one near nanjing area was very clean and neat with ac room, but i am not aware if they are GF keep trying on that web site
