Watching television last night about Pattaya ex-pats club having a famous Bangkok Lawyer as their guest speaker this week.
It covered the topics He was going to address at the meeting...bogus Lawyers in Pattaya!

The anchorman went into some detail as to the advice etc this lawyer was going to give to the members. It would appear that there are hundreds if not thousands of farangs in Pattaya who have bought condos but don't legally own them? Apparently the deal has to be concluded by a fully qualified Thai lawyer and even the people working from the law offices in Pattaya are not QUALIFIED lawyers.

What chance do we have if we buy from places such as law offices and the deal and paperwork isn't correct because of the person pretending to be a lawyer isn't?
There doesn't appear to be any protection against these people at all. I used to think buying and owning a condo was simple, now I'm not so sure.

I have been juggling with the idea of selling some property in the UK and buying a few condos here, but after listening to that I don't know now.

I am on "Guard" as this guy just so happened to have papers woth him sauing how much he has just made etc on some condo deals... also he was very quick to arrange a site visit for my mate. All a bit "handy" ...........

I do not see any future in property in most of Thailand. Too bloody risky. I will end up in Cambodia etc.

Also the stories you hear of "condo nightmares" are everywhere... And like bars in Pattaya... Most are for sale !!

A bunch of aging wankers who went out there to shag their brains out and they just couldnt get enough so they settled there and now form this club in an attempt to justify their perpetual shagging and make them look like pillars of the community.

If it's a company based near KFC in Jomtien be very careful, a Guy I knew last year was working for them for over a year selling condos and He had no work permit!

The trouble is, everything’s unregulated. You don't get a survey done on a condo it's all dependant on the price you are willing to pay.

I do know one Guy who does well from the condo business, but He is "in the know" with policemen and immigration officials etc and has built a good business here.
Nearly everyone else I know is struggling to sell. Problem is you can only own a condo in your name if there is greater than 51% Thai ownership in the building. This can cause a big problem if Farangs buy without the occupants being checked first, it means if the quota gets exceeded then you can only sell to a Thai (good luck with that) or the Farang must form a company to own a condo (unlikely)

I agree with you there. But some of the advice you can get is pretty good though. Especially when Thais are telling you be careful (buyer beware) or you will be fleeced!

Well one reason i read recently is that we cannot handle 'new age' women who are assertive and independent.
We are more the 'macho' kind of man who prefers the old order of things where women are women and men are men.

Basically we aint getting it at home...
