This was my first real trip to Thailand. I’ve mongered elsewhere, though. I learned quite a bit from this board, and I would like to give something back. Do not judge me too harshly. After all, we are all here to learn from each other.
I would like to extend my condolences to my friends in the UK over the Subway bombings there. Being a New Yorker I am no stranger to terrorism.
Anyway, arrived in Bangkok on Thai Airways new direct flight from JFK on June 22nd. It cost 1200 dollars US. Not bad for a direct flight. Also, the food is incredible and they give you plenty of it along with free alcohol. After flying several US airlines whose workers could give a rat’s arse about you, it was a pleasure dealing with Thai Airlines; their workers are first rate. Although being an airline worker is probably a great job for most Thais. The flight took 17 hours.
My friend picked me up and drove me to Pattaya and I checked into the brand new LK Pavilion Hotel near South Pattaya Rd. Got a rate of 2200 Baht per night for a very nice two-room apartment. The Hotel was excellent but a bit off the beaten path. Also had water problems when I was there---twice there was NO water. Pattaya seems to be having water problems. Even during this rainy season it hasn’t rained. After taking my friend and his Thai wife to dinner, I went to Living Dolls II where a young dancer named Jane caught my eye. Turns out prices appear to be fixed at this establishment, 1000 short time, and 2000 for LT. Jane wouldn’t budge. I chose LT and took Jane back to my Hotel. When I got there I realized that I had been awake for roughly 30 straight hours (I can’t sleep on Planes). No matter, I got down to business. Afterwards, Jane began a series of sob stories. “I have baby, I need money” She also showed me a receipt for 3500 Baht for Jewelry she had to hock to help her family. She said that if I gave her the money to get her Jewelry out of hock shed “be my constant companion”. At that point I didn’t even want to go LT anymore. Maybe it was the long flight and my exhaustion that got me pissed. But fact is, most of us have jobs. And at our jobs we don’t get more money because we have problems. And I certainly never scammed anyone because of my problems. I gave her 1000 Baht and told her to get lost. She began to curse me. I began to curse back. I told her Id call hotel security, and she slammed my door and left. Have any of you ever gotten hit with this scam?
Next night I traveled back to walking street and entered SuperModels a Go Go bar. Nice establishment. There I chose a young lady named Mel. Nice person, English was limited. Bar fined her back to my Hotel (500 Baht) before even negotiating. This time I took some vitamin V. Thailand is Rush Limbaugh’s dream. You can get most anything over the counter at most Pharmacies, Viagra included, at good prices compared to what we pay here in the USA. . Viagra is also sold as a clone called “Kwanagra” and four pills can be had for 500Baht. We watched some TV while waiting for the Vitamin to take effect. I then asked how much for LT. She said, “Whatever you want to pay me. 1,000-2,000 Baht”. This took me even more aback than the woman last night. I had her stay overnight, and gave her 1500 Baht the next day and Breakfast. I was going to give her 1000, but when she didn’t scam me I decided to give her 1500…In any case, will continue the story tomorrow.
