The next day I took a walk around town, had a two hour deep Thai massage and hot oil massage (cost was 400 Baht, dirt cheap by NYC standards, and it feels great) and went to a very large Beer Bar on Pattaya Central Rd. (cant remember the name). One of the bar girls began playing a game of “Connect Four” with me (seems to be a popular game among the bar girls) Never played it before but after losing the first seven games I won the next four. Meanwhile, about a half-dozen other bar girls were watching us and cheering. While I was looking at the board she kept signaling to my friend about me (he seeing anyone?). I wasn’t all that attracted to her, but after the games I gave her 40 Baht and said “thanks for playing with me”, and her face lit up like I gave her my ex-fiancé’s two-carat diamond engagement ring. Yeah, they can be scheming bitches, but there are good things about them as well (I guess there has to be).
Anyway, that night I went into the Beach, a go-go bar off walking street. I liked this place. You sat at tables right near the dancers. The music was at a volume that I could definitely handle (being 50, I cant stand music that sounds like a jet engine, and has about as much tone to my ears) and the music was good 60’s, 70’s and 80’s stuff. I struck up a conversation with one of the hostesses, and decided to bar fine her for the night (again, 500 Baht). I gave her 2000 Baht for the night. I took some more Vitamin V and in addition to all the alcohol I had it wasn’t a wise move. She REALLY earned her money that night. Anyways, I had reservations on the Island of KOH Samed for three days, and decided to take her and the Supermodels girl with me. Let me say that Koh Samed is a very quiet Island compared to Koh Chang and Koh Samui. If you are going there, it’s wisest to bring female companionship. Most everyone going to the bars there seems already paired up. You might score, but it’s far from a sure thing. Also, both Koh Chang and Koh Samui have beer bars and go-go’s. I didn’t find them on Koh Samed.
There are some nice, quiet bars to drink in, some good seafood restaurants on the beach, but if it’s evening action you are looking for, Id go elsewhere. The beaches on the Island were beautiful, though. I was there with my two women and I had two friends there who had three women. While we fished or swam or drank the women played cards during the day. Anyone notice that Thai Women amuse themselves pretty easily?
After returning to Pattaya, I checked into the Marriott. The place was expensive by Pattaya standards, but the service there was excellent, the restaurants were very good, the pool was great, and you cant beat the location, just a short distance to walking street. Of course, you can get anywhere in town dirt cheap using Baht busses (10 Baht for non Thais, 5 Baht for Thais) but you had better know where you are going and communicate that with the driver, or else you can find yourself more than a couple of Kilometers from where you want to be.
While I was there I decided to buy a gold chain. I had a few gold chains with me that I wore in the day, so on my friends recommendation I went to Suwannee Gold Smith on Pattaya Central Rd. He gave me 18000 Baht for my chains (a very fair price), so I bought a 3 Baht chain for gold price plus 2% (a fair price, since my design was very elaborate).
Well, when I wore the chain most women in the bars around town couldn’t stop fingering it and grabbing at it. They were like little girls playing with dolls. These Thai women absolutely LOVE gold! Not that American Women have an aversion to the stuff, but I never saw anyone so fascinated with any metal. In America, unless you are a rap star, gold chains are considered kind of silly. But in Thailand wearing your wealth around your neck or on your finger makes you an extremely ‘hip” kind of guy. At least that’s what I saw.
Anyway, I will finish this report tomorrow.
